Unabsorbed yolk

Thank you so much. When it hatched I noticed that it was dry but scared it was the yolk I put the ointment on it hoping that that would help it absorb. My mom is looking after the chick since I'm out of town. She said its turning black. She keeping giving it some sugar water. She's worried because it will run around a little and then lay down and fall asleep. I told her that it's just a baby and not to worry about it. Thank you so much can for helping , I was so worried .

Avian probiotics in the water would be better. Just as in people, sugar water is not healthy. Running around then sleeping suddenly is normal chick behavior. Happy your chick is doing better.

Thanks so much, I'll give you an update as of how it is. Can I put it in the broader with the other chicks?

I've put ducklings with open navels in brooders with other ducklings. Just make sure the navel doesn't get pecked at by others...

Okay so now I need help! The baby had poo attached to its butt so I had to soak it in warm water. As soon as I pulled it out, green/ yellow slimy stuff started coming out of the navel! The baby will not stand and is weak. It's chirping and its breathing is very slows

As soon as I pulled to poop off it started having green stuff. The baby isn't going to make it. Even though it's chirping it's gasping for air as I hold it..

Instead of it suffering what can I do? I don't think I can cull it myself...

I don't have any answers other than cull. I've had to do it myself. I keep it in my head that I don't allow my animals to suffer. I apologize to them that their life wasn't longer and I tell them that I am absolutely refusing to allow them to suffer. Then I cull. It's hard for me, I'm a wicked softy. I just remind myself that the baby is hurting and I can't allow that. You just have to be strong in your heart. You've done the best you can so far and you have to keep doing the best you can.
