Underground RR Quilt Block

I hope it is ok to post this. I am not sure if a pattern or block is chosen for the next swap yet but I wanted to bring this block pattern forward. It is on the front cover of this book. There are many ways you can arrange the blocks and it is easy to use up fabrics you have at hand. the pattern looks stunning to me but I do favor scrappy quilts.

I'd use this pattern-

except make the 4 identical fabric patches into one 6 1/2 in. square block and also add one row of two more different fabrics 6 1/2 inch blocks. To make it easier we could leave the extra 2\two 6 1/2 in. blocks detached so it is easier to make an equal number of left and right blocks.

If there is interest I could make a proto type of the blocks and post pictures.

If you want the layout like on the front of the book-

but with a 12 in. finished block-

You make the block like quilterscache suggest only changing the 4 similar blocks to a 6 1/2 in. block in each corner.

Then for each block you make 12 in. you need another 6 in. by 12 in. finished unit in between each finnished 12 in. block before sewing it together.

So in order to achieve the layout like the front of the book. You will need two blocks, one being the 12 in. Four Patch Chain block and one being just two 6 in. finished blocks sewn together to make a 6x12 in, finished unit.

DH is willing to make a drawing to show it.

Whatever we decide to do... please... no brights. Not necessarily as dark as civil war but I just don't like brights. Sorry. That does look like a nice quilt though so I may sign up for the free patterns.

Oh the quilt pattern is something I was just sharing. You can make it any color you want. I like a more muted patriotic colored quilt so I think I like this pattern for that.

The beginnings of my new kitchen curtain. It has taken all day to get this far, I've been really sick all day so have only been able to work in short bursts.
