Unexpected hatch. Chick rubbed raw on turner.

If you don't have Blu-Kote, you can try a little Neosporin-type salve, as long as it doesn't have any pain killer in it. I've been told by SO many people that we shouldn't use anything with painkiller in it, so I follow that advice. Can anyone tell me why? It would be nice to know. Please?
It used to be thought that the pain killer was toxic to birds. I think they found it isn't, not in the dosages in the salve.

Yea, that's a myth that has be debunked. Some "caine" pain killers (like lidocaine, benzocaine, or I can't remember specifically which one) have been found to be toxic to some birds in large doses, but there is so little of it in Neosporin type ointments, it doesn't hurt them. If you had both in hand, I'd use the one without it, but if that's all you've got, a little isn't going to kill them. I've personally used a tube or two of it with no adverse affects.

x2

How's the little one doing this morning?
Little one seems fine, the blister seems the same as before. It hasn't come out from under the heater plate to eat, that I've seen, yet. But we had the windows open last night and it was a bit cold in the house this morning.

I'm starting to wonder if it is a blister or if it is a relic of a sack or something attached to it's leg.

Thank you! That's what I suspected, but having once made a near-fatal mistake with my dog, I now try to err on the side of caution.

Thanks. I hope so too. I'm starting to wonder about where the blister came from. I'll get better pictures of it this afternoon.

Have you touched it? Are you sure its full of fluid?

I had a lav orp chick once that scratched her own neck raw, and created a little blister on her shoulder. It was more of an air bubble, didn't have fluid in it. I think she finally busted the skin, and it eventually healed with no problems later. Her name was Psycho Chick :D

It is definitely full of fluid. It hangs down when the chick stands. I'll try to get a video of it later.
