UNEXPECTED RABBIT BABIES! Mom took all 6!! *PICS PG 3*

When I was was a little, we took in a "runt of the litter" bunny and bottle fed it from sandwhich baggies. We just poked a tiny hole in the corner. Squirting milk onto its mouth helps to get it to eat. First it licks its mouth and then realizes that it should suck. I hope that works for you.

If you haven't already, fix her up a nest box. You can use a dishpan with wood shavings or straw-not cedar. The moms only feed them 2-3 times a day. When you handle the babies, touch the mother then a kit, and repeat with each one so they all have her scent on them.

Well, we lost two of them, the two that were very weak, but the rest seem to be doing well. Late last night I finally got ahold of a woman who raised rabbits. Her suggestion was to put a box in with the mom, bring her in to nurse the babies tonight, but keep the babies in tonight. Then put the babies out with her tomorrow and see is she accepts them. The problem was, I was alone last night and couldn't bring her in and manage the babies. So I feed them last night by myself, and this morning they are all moving, warm and their skin looks to be hydrated, and their bellies are not sunken in. I have no idea what I am looking at, so this is just my guess.

Still doing well! The mom is starting to pull her fur out, so maybe she will accept them tonight. I am scared to death of putting them out there and having her attack them and not being able to get them out in time. But I know if it does work, she will do way better than I could. Last night I could only get 2 ml of replacer in to collectively all 6. This morning they divided up 3 ml. So eating better. Here's a pic

Well she seems to have taken them in. I just checked on here and the fur was moving in the nest box so at least one is alive. When should I add the others???? I really need some advice!!

VERY VERY important to take a soft cotton ball and wipe their butts to get the to potty. They can't do that on their own at all. The mother usually will lick their bellies and butt to get them to go. If you don't do this they WILL die. It's a common mistake when people take in bunnies.

I last nite just got 3 orphaned kittens from my Parent's (mother barn cat was killed). They're only a wk old. I've taken in baby kittens that I've bottle fed before (collectively 6 total). I imagine bunnies aren't much different. They're very difficult to have them take the bottle nipple at first, but it's soft enough you can open their mouth with it from the side, then squeeze the bottle a bit to put some formula into their mouth to have them take formula, a little at a time. It's a slow process at first until they learn to suck on the bottle nipple to 'drink' it. Both -Before & After- they eat you have to put them over some papertowels (to catch their waste on) & take a warm water dampened cotton ball & wipe their bums so they can go to the bathroom. They need this assistance to eliminate, or they will die. I too am an animal Lover & it'd be hard to let the baby bunnies outside & -wonder- if they'll live. I'd rather not worry & take care of them. But it is a commitment. Nice thing is out of all the other kittens I've bottle fed they've all found good homes, only kept 2.

Which is good for an animal lover like me, lol.

But even these 3 will go back to my parents, they're going find them good homes. So it's nice to only have them for a short while.

Hope this helps

Probably unlikley, but if you have a female cat she might take them as her own and I know with any animal if they start nursing, milk will eventually come. We have had one baby kitten that was sick or deformed and the mother left it alone to let it die, so I just put drops of milk in its mouth (they will never suck on a bottle it doesnt feel like a real nipple). But rub them firmly with your fingertips to get them stimulated or they will give up and die. Try a heating pad too. They will make it, just keep an eye on them constantly.
