And I knew about the wiping their privates, but it seems like they are going on their own. They are on a white towel and you can see the urine and the itty bitty poo pellets all over. I was told that the wild rabbits need to do this but not the domestics. Any one????
And the two we put outside are FAT! I thought I was doing so well with the 4 left inside, but they look like spaghetti compared to hotdogs. So we put two more out this morning before we fed them and Midnight didn't jump in and feed them. So after 30 minutes we brought them inside and fed. The plan right now is to feed them at lunch and put all 4 out as soon as we are done and see if she will feed them tonight. Does that sound reasonable??????
Remember, rabbit moms do NOT feed their babies frequently like cats and dogs do.
Try to leave mom ALONE with the kids as much as possible. Give the remaining indoor babies a big meal, then put them out with mom, and leave them ALONE for several hours. Even 8 hours or so. Baby bunnies are used to only eating a couple of times a day, and the more you leave mom alone the calmer she'll be!
When my daughter an I used to show Holland Lops a few yrs back, if we had an agressive momma, we would take the nestbox out and keep it up at our house and once a day take the nest box back to momma and hold her to let them nurse.
I would recommend trying them with another momma first.. Rabbits are really not the best mothers in the world..
Beautiful babies! It sounds as though you are doing good with them. As someone else stated the does only feed a couple times a day so, give them a big meal and put them out with her and see what happens. If this is her first litter it may just be she didn't know what to do with them. It happens.
Sherrie: We only have this momma, so that is unfortunately not an option. Mom is feeding them as I type, and we will put the rest out with the mum when she is done.
I got three to four mls into EACH of them, not collectively. They seemed to get their sucking reflex!! YEAH!! So as soon as I was done, we put the other 4 into the nest box and I won't check them until tomorrow morning! I am very afraid that these will look so skinny to her that she will think they are weak and kill them anyway. But I want them to be in there a good while before she feeds tonight.
PLEASE pray that tomorrow there are 6 FAT ones squirming around in there. This is going to be a LONG, LONG 19 hours.
