Universal Health Care Passes House

A decision good or bad is better than no decision at all. My husband and I care self insured, we have different companies, by husband is a type II diabetic. We pay over $600 per month in premiums and each have a $5,000 deductible. We pay for all prescriptions ($300 per month) and all doctor visits (well and sick) out of pocket.

Basically we have catastrophic policies. We can not afford to be uninsured. I feel for the folks that have good policies and for the folks who's taxes will go up. But I need other options. My health insurance premium is a HOUSE payment.

We have a triage system here in Canada. The more serious the issue, the faster you get seen, treated, operated on, etc.

It works that way from the emergency room on up the line.

If you walk into an ER with a sprained ankle, you are going to wait a lot longer to be seen than the guy who came in after you who was hit by a car.

The same goes for treatment and surgery.

If you need a knee replacement, you are going to go behind the person who has breast cancer and needs a mastectomy. Yes, needing a new knee has a big effect on quality of life, but nobody dies from not getting a knee replacement fast enough. Who here would really be okay with having their knee replaced ahead of someone needing cancer surgery?

I have a friend who had skin cancer. She was in to see the specialist the same day our GP saw the cancer on her leg. She had it removed within a week.

I went into the hospital at 11pm one night with severe abdominal pain. I was in surgery by 7pm the next day. I had massive infection and had my appendix removed.

It really bothers me when Canadians bash our system. No, it isn't perfect, but it is not terrible either. Never once since our universal healthcare system was put in place, has a Canadian gone bankrupt courtesy of medical bills. Not once has a Canadian been denied care due to a pre-existing condition.

i am not trying to bash it , my mom had to have her galbaltor ( sp) out it does not seam that bade but it was puting her throw a lot of pian , it tock months to see a doctor and that was after many vists to the ER at 1,2,3 am etc , also my dad hade skin cancer he never went into the ER he went to the clinck got it removed after checking to with the doc to see when she was going to be there just so he could get it removed. Also there is a on going serch for doc's we just don't have them and if any , doc's move to canada they have to go thorgh traning agian to become a doc in canada. any ways best of luck to you US even if they live it , and yes there have been at lest on case people not being able to afourd there living cots that was not covered by the gov' and after she had the surgy she died

I lost my health Insurance in 2003, since theat time niether me or my wife has health insurance, because we can not afford one period.
So I hope that this new bill will help families like mine, then may be we can try to have a baby and not being worry about what next all the time.
Rich ppl don't care about the hard working class, they think it is our problem that we can't ge a head like them, I am not trying to piss off anyone here, but not all of us had the chance to get a collage degree and be able to make tons of $$, I work very hard for mine and a lot of other ppl do work very hard, but most small businesses like me are stuggeling to make ends meets.

We haven't had health insurance for many years, it would take out $200 a month from our income. We never go to the doctor anyway...

I had my babies with insurance coverage, however chose to forgo that when I had my daughter, I had her at home with a midwife I paid for, the insurance wouldn't pay the $3500 for the midwife, they wanted me to go to a hospital so they could fork out $10000 for the birth - bunch of idiots who are only in it for the profit!

the insurance company paid him well to say that

Lad, please refrain from personal attacks. I'd like to keep this thread open. I know political threads can get testy but I want to keep the politics out of THIS ONE. I want to know how people expect this to change their lives if it passes the senate and becomes the norm.

Y'all need to read T.R. Reid's "The Healing of America". A very quick read and it puts an awful lot in perspective, a lot that we, as American's may not have been aware of.

No one can explain how this is going to be paid for. My pension can't handle anymore taxes or goods and services going up because this thing will cost business and it will be passed on to use. This whole thing stinks. Why won't they discuss tort reform? The whole thing is going to mean more government interference in our lifes.
