unknown disease!!!!!

she just turned 2 last month, and she is still laying. It usually lasts about 3-4 days, and then the next day she will look like nothing happened! Weird!!!! This thing started at I think in the fall sometime. I am pretty new too, so I don't know what sour crop is.... This is the first time I have noticed the crop being puffy. usually her crop is completely empty. So that is new.

ARRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!! I just went outside to check on my chicken again, and I tried tipping her so her head faced the ground, and then I massaged her crop and a TON of yellowish, orange fluid came pouring out!!! I had to tip her up a couple of times just so she could breathe! Is that sour crop???? If it is how do I get rid of it??? Oh, and her crop is almost completely empty!!

Today she looks a little better, but is still not perfect. I have been giving her yogurt (which she only eats one bite of) and I have been giving her a supplement of this stuff called Forco. It is a probiotic. I have also been putting acv in their water, so now I am just crossing my fingers. I have also been doing the part where I tip her upside down and massage the crop to get the stuff out, and I seem to get quite a bit each time. How long does sour crop last??

Hi BigECarter,

Do you know if sour crop will go away on it's own or with the help of natural remedies? I am trying not to use medication not only for money, but also because chickens in the wild don't take medication and seem to be much healthier then our domesticated hens we have now. If this was Cocci or some other disease that the hen can't cure it's self, then I would give them medication, but in this case I think that just giving natural probiotics with help with this problem.

Thanks for the help!
