Unknown holes in ducks feet

Well my sister works at sonic and some boys brought her in asking if any one wanted a duck so us having chickens already took her in. So possibly it could have been fish or mice, but the holes seemed as if they appeared over night. We have been watching the other chicks to see if they were pecking at her but it doesn't seem like it. Considering there aren't any new holes.

I can only imagine what some young boys may have done to a poor ducklings webs.

They do look healed and not bleeding or painful. Folks do punch webs with hole punches for identification purposes, so hopefully the holes won't hurt her overall. She might have a little trouble swimming, but she will probably make up for it. She's a real cutie! Nice of you to take her in.

Thank you! Do you think I should take her to the vet?

Nope, she should be fine...

Those holes are completely healed, so are old, not new... I have seen similar (smaller and only a couple) on some of mine when they decide to try climbing around in the blackberry bushes... just about anything could have caused them, a large thorn will poke a hole in a web even, as I have seen... but that looks kinda like 'road rash'...

They most likely weren't noticeable earlier due to being scabbed over and on dark webs scabs tend to blend in...

For the record, I do toe punch my chicks, but never ducklings/ducks... I will only ever use legbands on them for ID purposes, and actually haven't heard of any other duck breeders web punching either...

:goodpost: ya know, after i mentioned toe punches, I did wonder if it's done in ducks too. I'd be scared of hitting a little vein. So thanks for that clarification. :highfive:

Ya know, I have no idea why others don't web punch ducklings, but for me it was never even a thought... chickens don't NEED the tiny bit of webbing between their toes, but ducks do... I sure wouldn't poke holes in my flippers before scuba diving, now would I? ;)
