Thanks, guys.

I know we did everything possible, but it's still hard. Going in there to pay that monster bill and NOT having my little hen at the end of it is gonna suck, too.

I got myself all worked up worrying about Clarice and Svetlana last night--what if THEY get this too??!?!

But Olivia was NEVER a normal layer. From the very start, when she arrived at age 6 mos, she laid funny eggs--very soft shelled, abnormal looking ones, and infrequently. Then she had that bout of egg yolk peritonitis 2.5 years ago. Both Clarice and Svetty have always laid perfectly normal eggs, so hopefully it will never happen to them. I just have to try not to worry. Which is hard, LOL. At any rate, if this ever happens again I will get the hen spayed RIGHT AWAY. If I'd gotten it done 2.5 years ago things probably would have gone fine--I greatly regret waiting and seeing.

I'm so sorry - my heart hurts for you!

You and your vet did an incredible job with your sweet girl - no doubt you did everything you could (and then some) to give her a happy life. I'm just sorry it didn't work out like we were all hoping.

AW gee, I was so hoping for a positive outcome. I know you all (Olivia, vet and you) tried your very best. She was a very special hen and had a very special owner. How lucky you are tho to have a vet with actual bird experience. That's a miracle in it's self. Sending kleenex and hugs your way.

:hit So sorry to hear about your Olivia. I am new to the site but as I was reading all of the posts mt heart was with you all the way. It is not easy to loose anything that means so much to us. All we can do is remember the good times we had while we were amongst them. God rest you Olivia, you no longer know any pain or suffering.... You will see her again if you believe!

I'm so sorry to hear about Olivia.

Please, no regrets on waiting to have the surgery. You couldn't have known things would go this way. Just try to remember all the joy she brought your family, and the terrific life you gave her.
