Update: crop surgery with graphic photos

Good, I will definitely give an update in the morning. Thanks for your help today I was starting to feel a little discouraged, but it seems we definitely made some head way! Hopefully it wasn't to late!

@casportpony Im going to go ahead and give her the baytril now, I just wanted to double check that .2ml twice a day is the correct dose for to 50mg/ml?

How much does she weigh?

"Your Baytril is 50 mg/ml and the most commonly prescribed chicken dose is 10 mg per ml orally *twice* a day, which means you need to weigh her and give her 0.09 mg per pound of body weight. If she weighs five pounds she would get 0.45 ml (okay to round up to 0.5 ml) twice a day."

@casportpony thanks! She was 4.3 lbs yesterday. So at .09ml per pound I should give .19 twice a day. And it was a new med for my rabbit but your right it is a short expiry, February 9th 2020. Thank you!

I'm glad to see Regina is feeling better. See really looks good standing on her little roost. Looking forward to seeing her again.

Ok so we have good and bad! Good-She is definitely eating and drinking on her own (not 100% back to normal) And overall acting more like a chicken, grooming more talking more and poops look pretty good all day they actually have substance to them!
Bad news!- Her incision is infected I think its just the skin layer because her crop seem to be working ok! So I have her on Baytril twice a day, and I decided to put her on metacam for inflammation and pain. Ive been flushing/washing with betadine and then applying 3 antibiotic polysporin. Does that seem like a reasonable course of action? @azygous

In the overall scheme of things, it's a minor setback. You are taking excellent care of this little girl.

I don't think the infection is a result of how you did the surgery or post op care. I believe her immune system was severely taxed from her long battle with her crop and gizzard issues, so by the time you did the surgery, she didn't have many defenses left. But you've been on your toes and alert for any complications. It's darned handy you had the Baytril on hand.

I think in the future, I'm going to recommend an antibiotic concurrent with crop surgery. You wanted to do that, and I should have said, "Good idea".
