I have a chickie that hatched with part of yolk still attached. Yolk has absorbed and she seems to be ok... EXCEPT he can not stand on her own. She falls over onto one side. Do I just need to give her a couple more days in the bator? It doesn't look like her legs are splayed, just that she can't stand on her own.

Edited to included:
At the moment I have her in a sock. Please don't laugh.... I have her stuck in my bra keep her warm. I am feeding her sugar water at the moment. I don't want to keep opening the hatcher if I don't have to. I have other eggs in there.

Any suggestions..... Anyone????

maybe get a little box and put a light over it for her. she might just need to work up her leg strength. i had a couple a while back that did this.were better after a day or so.

keep an eye on her and make sure shes getting the sugar water, and food if shes eating yet.

I had one chick that had similar issues--she seemed to be off balance, kept falling over on her side. I read some info here on BYC and decided to give her Poly-vi-sol vitamins and vit. E for about a week. She was much better in just a few days and even though she is still a little smaller that most of the others, she's seems fine now--no more balance problems.

Have you seen the post about the 1/2 bandaid splint? We had a little runt of a hen that kept flipping over on her back. The splint helped immensely. She figured it out within a day, and was hopping around with her siblings.

I just put a tiny bit of gatorade mix in the water, but didn't force it on her. I think I accidentally drowned a chick once by making it drink.

I just had a similar problem with an Ixworth that bled during hatching, it took him a good 18/20 hours until he actually opened his eyes and walked. Times a healer. Good Luck.

Last year I had a chick that spun in circles, always the same direction. I squeezed one of those liquid vitamin E capsules into its water along with the usual vitamin pack and within a week he stopped spinning. I have no idea which one SpinDry is now.

Thank you all for the encouraging words. I have the chickie with me at work today. I stopped by Walgreens on the way in and got some Poly-Vi-Sol (without Iron).
