You'll be surprised at how many places you can acquire chicks in the spring if you know where to look! I love ideal, I've ordered from them three times now and have had wonderful luck. I did get a small order last year that came with 11 'packing peanuts' for warmth, but was able to rehome the baby boys within a week. Your local feed store should have chicks come spring (give them a call, sometimes they only sell by 'reservation') your local paper, craigslist, local farmers etc... are all good sources. Welcome to BYC! You'll be making that coop bigger before long because raising chickens is a strong addiction!

Mine are coming from Ideal today too! I am in So Cal so I am expecting them to arrive on Fri....although I have the brooder set and ready. Turning on the heat today to ensure I have the temps correct and it is nice and cozy.
I am expecting 3 Black Australorps 3 EEers and 4 Khaki Campbells.

I had my packing peanuts a week or two, I was enjoying them, but as they grew the brooder was crowding. I listed them in craigslist and for whatever lucky reason I had calls the first day. One girl took all of them the next day. As long as you list them as free I don't think you'll have any problem, whether you list them right away or wait till they're bigger. Good luck!

Hi all!
I have 26 Sliver Laced Wyandottes shipping on Wed as well. Should get that wonderful wake up call in the morning!

I got 26 EE's mid-December. The day they shipped it was in the low 20's everyone was fine. I am sure all of yours will arrive just fine!

My Ideal order was to ship today...but it CAME TODAY! I got a call about 1:10 this afternoon that my peeps were here. They were all alive - the 10 I ordered plus 5 packing peanuts. Man, that must have been some tailwind from TX to OK today!
