Good evening friends,

I posted this morning that my duckling was at a 4 day standstill in his hatching process.

He started to make progress a few hours ago and started bleeding!
After almost passing out, I put him in a little cup lined with paper towel to stop anymore progression.
It wasn’t a lot of blood, but there shouldn’t be ANY!
First I was worried because he wasn’t hatching and now I’m worried because he IS!!
I have had SO many problems with my Muscovy ducklings! All needed assistance and the one that I let nature take its course passed away.
He internally piped and no progress.
I did put a safety hole and let it be. And he died. I have no idea as to why.
I did an eggtopsy and he was perfect.
No bruises on the egg, absorbed yolk sac, just a beautiful baby. 💔

Now, here we go again! And im exhausted from worrying and have 20 eggs at staggering ages to go yet.

I wish I wasn’t so sensitive and a stronger person, but it’s my flaw. I’ll do anything to help any living creature of God. 🙏

I don’t know if he’s going to starve, manage to hatch and bleed out, or simply die.
After investing 37 days keeping the eggs alive in the incubator, watching them develop and finally pip, losing one just breaks my heart.

Does anyone think he’ll make it?
Is there anything else I should do?
I’m so sorry for asking so many questions, I’m still learning and I want to succeed so very much. 🥰

Thank you in advance for any advice or help you can offer.

Blessings,
Amy

I'm not sure as what to do at this point. I know you've had a rough time and am pulling for this little guy! The feet sticking out worry me as he has nothing to push from. Maybe a more experienced duck hatcher can offer more advice!

So where is the blood coming from? If it is coming from the middle of the belly, don't be too concerned; htat will happen sometimes! If shell is stuck to the baby, carefully peel it off. I am the same way as for the sympathy boat, and i always hatch out mine that don't make progress after around 2 days. If yellow gloop is seeping out, i hatch them right away.

Awe, you’re so very kind. ❤️
Thank you so much. And yes, I really have had a very tough time with all of them. I don’t know what it is about Muscovy’s, but I’m having such trouble with them.
My other ducks and chicks were no problem, but since we started Muscovy’s last June, I’ve had to assist in each one. And the one I didn’t assist in passed away.. 😢
I can’t imagine what I’m doing wrong, I’ve spoken to literally hundreds of people, read everything I could possibly find and reached out to very educated Muscovy breeders that said I’m going above and beyond.
A friend told me it’s because it’s my young female’s first clutch and I completely believe that she is correct.
Her body must still be working out the kinks because she never went broody no matter how we tried.

I’m so terribly worried about this little baby because I get so invested emotionally.

I’m hoping someone will have an answer because he went from NOT making any progress, so trying to finally hatch, (I was THRILLED!) until I saw the blood, which I don’t understand because half the egg is open and everything is dry. I even had to lube the membrane with olive oil to keep the baby from getting dry and shrink wrapped.
When I did that there was no bleeding or fluid at all!
I’m still new, if you haven’t already noticed. Lol! But this group has literally taught me so much and saved my little ones as well!
Thank God for you all! ❤️❤️❤️

For your eggtopsy, sometimes the chick just gets too tired. If you are worried, make the zip, and let him push the rest himself.
Hi!

Your just like me, I can’t just leave them to die.
I don’t know where the blood is coming from because he’s still halfway in his egg.
I was peeling a bit more shell off and I noticed some blood on the left side around the membrane.
Today is day 5!! I’m a complete wreck at this point. He’s still in his little cup and still alive. How much longer can he go on this way??? 😢

Thank you so much!

Can you see any veins, how much blood was lost? Just a little? Or a lot?
Is he yawning or chewing?
Day 5 since internal pip or external? They can go two days without food or water once the yolk is completely absorbed. And the yolk isn't usually absorbed fully until after external pip.

Do you have a calibrated thermometer and hygrometer in your incubator?

💕🙏 She just hatched!!!!
I came down this morning and she had gotten her little head free and she was poking out of the cup and peeping “I’m ready now!”
So I took the the egg out of the cup, and out she came!!! Yolk sac is fully absorbed and she seems strong. What a relief!! 💕🙏

Good morning!

I wasn’t sure where the bleeding was coming from and I didn’t want her to finish hatching, so I put her in a little cup that I lined with paper towels and popped the egg in there overnight.
When I came down this morning she had freed her head and was peeping away as if to say “I’m ready to come out now.” So I took out the egg and within 30 seconds she was out!
Yolk sac completely absorbed and she seems strong!
Now she’s resting on a cloth handkerchief and drying off.
That was a long and stressful 4 days for sure!

Thank you for your kindness and support. ❤️
