I'm so glad you were both able to get some rest, and I hope the situation continues to improve now that Social Services is on the case.

I am just reading this after being gone for a few days. I am glad things are going better for you and your son. My thoughts continue to be with you and your family.

In December,2007 my grandson was accidentally shot in the head; we were told that there was no hope for survival or meaningful life should he survive. This past week end he went back to his home in SC well on the road to meaningful recovery, so I can certainly empathise with your situation, we spent 3 solid months at his bedside.
His mother told me that one of the things she has learned in all this is the wonderful way people respond if they just know what is needed. We have received help in the form of encouragement, finances, services, prayers, literally, from all over the world. I am sure she would encourage you to ask. See how the ball got rolling when you let this forum know--it will keep going!
She used a blog Carepages.com to keep everybody updated on his progress and it just took off from there. Why don't you check to see if Carepages.com is available to you. It has been a godsend for our family.

Thanks, everyone. Things are working their way out.
The drainage had slowed down, but the night nurse last night was "stripping" the line as they call it, it's basically pulling the fluid down the drainage tube to generate a minor amount of suction and make sure the fluid is moving, and a big old clot came through, and he started to drain again.
She was a bit more vigorous than the other nurses, and thank goodness, because he's put out 67 cc's of fluid today, fluid which could have found a new place to gather.
But, he's doing well. Daddy and big sister came to visit tonight and Daddy brought a Wendy's Kid's Meal. My little chow hound ate 3/4 of a cheeseburger, and a whole dish of those little mandarin oranges! Hopefully it's a sign that his appetite is returning.

A BYC friend referred our story to a gentleman at The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, and I spoke with him for close to 40 minutes yesterday. Today he called back to let us know we were being assigned a reporter, LOL, so we'll be famous, well, at least here in Pittsburgh...
We were advised by the paper to open a charitible account in my son's name, because people like to give when they see stories like that, so I made my husband do that today, LOL. He was less than thrilled, he hates going to the bank.
A couple community churches have stepped in and through the ministerium (sp?) fund, they have basically covered all our bills, past and present.
Plus, there is a fundraiser in the works, my husband's co-workers are setting up a Poker Run, a 50/50 and a spaghetti dinner benefit. Suddenly, I feel extremely blessed and MUCH less stressed.
Come September, we'll have a decent cushion to absorb any more medical issues we'll be dealing with. We're just going to keep hanging in, and continue to give thanks for all the wonderful, giving people out there.

Em, he looks good! Such a cutie pie. Hope he continues to improve. My son had a friend as a teenager who'd had open heart surgery as a baby. His mother thought he was going to die, so she named him the same name as her best friend's son. He was in karate classes with my son and was living a really good, active life. His best friend was the boy he was named after (both named Justin), and I was happy to know both boys when they were at my home with my son. Your boy will live a long, productive life, I'm sure.
OMG!!! This child has the face of an ANGEL!!! Glad to see him being a kid...chillin' with a burger and obviously watching his 'toons!
Children are such a blessing...we will continue to pray for his continued recovery and thankfulness that he is getting stronger every day!!!

I am so glad that things are better. God uses people to do His work on earth. I am so glad that you have found the help you need. Your little man is just beautiful. I will continue to keep you all in prayer at 1:15 EST each day (phone alarm is set). God bless.

Oh Em! That's wonderful news! The eating and appetite, the $$$$, everything! I am sitting here with tears of joy running down my face. HOW WONDERFUL!!! I hope now that your mind can be more at peace with things and that your little one can be your sole focus. I have thought so much about you and was wishing so badly that I lived closer. God bless all the generous people in this world!
