Update (pg 11): Daisy's crop - successful surgery and now eating!

Such good news, all things considered! That if need be, it'll be local and not general anesthetic, and that she is outside wanting to do normal stuff! Such a relief when they're not looking utterly miserable. The knot in the stomach loosens a bit. Sending many good wishes that as the weekend progresses, she gets better and better. I'll check back to see how it's going

Hey everyone, well Daisy is still impacted but eating furiously, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I'm still giving nystatin four times a day, and hoping she makes it through till Monday. Her poops are still runny, but with some solid stuff in them, so I have to hope that something's getting through.

She's out full time with the other girls now, as of last night, as I simply couldn't see her suffering in that cage any longer. She's still very feisty but very thin, so I'm crossing my fingers for her...

In the meantime, my husband left us yesterday, so sorry for the delay in giving an update. It's no great loss to us really, except there's no-one to watch my 11 month old daughter while I give Daisy her meds. She has to sit and scream in her playpen! Daisy's worth ten of him anyway!

Thanks everyone, I'm so glad that someone is sharing in this drama with me! My DH put the final nail in his own coffin when I said I was going to try Daisy with some natural yoghurt and he shouted 'I hate those chickens!!!!'. As I said, Daisy (and Bella, and Topsy and her chicks) are worth ten of him - at least they give me ten times as much enjoyment in life anyway!

My DD is with her grandma tonight, so I am going to try Daisy with a 1/4 of a tablet of diflucan and give her a really good crop massage before bed. I'm praying she'll not have to have surgery, but if it has to be done, then I'm willing to go there...

Must go look up the exact dosage anyway - I have a 150mg fluconazole capsule, which I assume must be the standard dose for human thrush (£12 for one capsule! That's just over $18!). Fingers crossed...




Bypassing the censor with symbols is also a no-no.

Oh no! I just came across this thread and I've just read the whole thing and I feel so lost! I have my first batch of 6 day old chicks, and I know I'll be terrified if one of my babies has to go through this. What can cause a impacted crop? I hope Daisy gets better asap!! She's beautiful. I think beautiful birds have nothing to do with breeding. I think it's from beautiful love from beautiful mommas! It sounds like you've gone from sinking in quicksand to treading it.
