Update (pg 11): Daisy's crop - successful surgery and now eating!

Oh gosh. I have no idea. Wish I knew something more about this! Maybe your vet will have an idea?

Sorry for the long delay - we've been away on our hols and left Daisy in very capable hands. The vet checked her over the morning before we left and said she seems to be doing nicely and gave her a shot of Baytril, to be on the safe side. Our chicken-sitter tells us that she's been eating and drinking and as yet I have had no reports of illness, so I'm hoping that when I pick her up on Sunday she will be on the mend.

I'm a bit nervous about seeing her again actually - what if she's not doing well? Perhaps the sitter won't have noticed...

Oh well, it has been nice not having to worry about her for a week. I've been thinking that even if she had been ill, there was nothing I could do while I was away anyway, so I'm dreading getting her back and maybe finding that the worrying starts all over again...

I know how you feel... one of my chicks is doing poorly (we don't really know what's wrong let alone how to fix it) and I'm going away for a four day camp next week. They're growing so fast that I feel like I'm going to miss a lot of their childhood, esp hers if she doesn't make it. I'm dreading leaving, and coming back because of all the "what if"s. Who needs boys when chickens can break your heart.

Well, I was dreading it, but she seems fine!

It's often the worry about what might happen, rather than what actually happens, that's the worst part!

She has a large lump at the bottom of her incision, which may be scar tissue I suppose (although it's round and squishy, so I fear a cyst or abcess, hopefully not though), but other than that she is eating, drinking, pooping and behaving normally. She's not laying again yet, but it has only been a fortnight since surgery, so that's no surprise.

The lady who looked after her while we were away said she was worried sick that she was going to die on her, but that she'd been absolutely fine the whole time we were gone. No concerns whatsoever.

I am now tentatively hopeful that she will make a good recovery...
