FYI I had his twin! I got two Houdan chicks from a local woman last spring. They were my first chickens and I was so excited! I picked a black and white mottled and him because he was cool looking. The woman said he was the only one who hatched out that way. She purchased the eggs online, I bet you anything it was from the same guy. She asked him about it and he told her the same thing that you were told! Anywho, both ended up being cockerels and the woman graciously took them back after all of the Houdans she kept were lost in a fox attack. I have pics if you're interested!
