Hey everybody. Sorry it took me so long to update. It's been a long night...

Well, the little slow poke started struggling more and more, so I decided to intervene. I was able to help the baby out of the shell, which was very nerve-racking. I read the posts, but I had no idea what I was doing...OMG the membrane was stuck to that poor little baby like glue. There was no way it would have hatched on its own. It is doing better this am, just weak and resting. I didn't know whether to help or not. It would have died for sure without help, but it may still...

And after I got this one situated, I had to deal with another in the same situation!! This one had gooey stuff geling to its head, and it was almost to cover its beak. So, I helped it, too.

Both are moving around and seem to be gaining a little more strength.

In total, I've got 8 chicks. Thanks, yall for all the encouragement and good wishes!!

Oh good, I'm glad you helped out - you never really know what could have or would have happened or what will happen... but no matter what - YOU did your part, and did it well!

It might take the little ones a while to recover - just leave them in the bator for a while - the ones I helped, didn't "fluff" up for a few days, I left them in the bator for about 24 hours, and they LOOKED wet, but it was just the feathers all gooped and dried like that.

Hey, wildsky...should I do anything to try to get the goop off? Use a warm paper towel?? Or will it eventually get better?

I have no clue what I'm doing...I'm just so glad ya'll are helping me!!!

If its still all sticky stuck in a week - then try clean it - but let the little gals just get up and on their feet. Do make sure the little rear end isn't blocked with feathers stuck - so they can poop easily. if it looks like its going to be goopy back there, you might want to put a little oil or something on their bums.

Yeah, I was worried about their bottoms. There was a lot of nasty stuff back there when they finally were out of the shells. I'll make sure I look closeley and get that all straightened out.

I'm getting ready to switch the ones that hatched on their own to the brooder. But, I am going to leave these two in the incubator until closer to 24 hours.
