Just about 8 weeks old. The comb and wattle aren't as big as pics of other young roosters I see. And the tail feathers seem well defined, not scraggly like it showed roosters have. Thoughts?

Rhode Island Red cockerel?

Disclaimer: I’m a newbie and have a RIR pullet. Here she is at 6 weeks. I don’t have anything more recent, but currently at 9 weeks old, her comb and wattle are not as big or as red as yours.

And her tail is not nearly as upright or as long as yours.

Yep. RIR. I have some girls and their combs are there but not quite as big. Not that much of a difference really. I was hoping it was NOT a rooster.

Only time will tell.

I have a 9 week old SL polish that started “crowing” a few days ago and has the reddest comb and wattles of all 8 chickens I own. But that still isn’t a definitive answer. However I’m 99.5% sure it’s a male.
Sounds like you're 0.5% in denial :plbb
