We gave you our answers...sorry it isn't what you wanted to read.

I would WAIT and see if we can't help you further on. Unless you intend to go ahead and cull it if it isn't what you ordered.

theres nothing wrong with your answers..theyre better than mine, i was just hoping some breeders would chime in....theres a few other questions id like to ask them anyways

Ok so what is up with this chick. I ordered 3 Silver Penciled Wyandotte eggs from a breeder on Ebay. I hatched all 3 and 2 are definitely SPWs, but the third, who is clearly a Wyandotte, is not coloring out like its supposed to? It has a Rosecomb and a Wyandotte head and this lady on has one type of Wyandotte - Silver Penciled

This is a head shot of Mystery chick

Anybody have a clue as to whats going on here?

I dont breed silver pencilled but I have had partridge and silver laced. I have had chicks hatch out that were solid colored like that one before and I almost always cull them off just to be safe. I noticed that in the SLW's the darker ones turned out to be birds with thicker lacing.
There is always a chance of a throwback. If I remember correctly the silver pencilled birds have SLW's in their background. Did the breeder you got them from get her breeding stock from a hatchery or a breeder that breeds to the standard? The chicks 'normal' colored sibling in the bottom pic is for sure a male. Your chick actually looks like the result of a pencilled/laced bird crossed to a solid black. In a few weeks you will know for sure.

thanks for the info....i figured it was a throw back...but im not sure how often that happens in chickens? i just emailed the breeder with a link to this thread to see if she has any idea...dont know where she got her birds

It all just depends on what pairing the birds are for them to produce a throwback. If you remember the silkied ameraucanas- it had to be just the right pairing of birds in order for it to happen. If it doesnt turn out right you could just mate it back to a silver pencilled and be able to get some normal colored chicks.

do you think it will produce any "off colored" ones itself or should they be all normal?
