Updated! Pics! Thank you! Someone that has a clue please help

I like the nail gun idea also, I will go investigate that at lunch tomorrow. Surely that would save some time and heartache and account for some lack of skill and experience. Although - tonight I'm pretty sure anyone that saw me - would not have thought I should have anything with the word "gun" in it.

As others have said, easiest is to build the wall on the ground and lift into place. An extra set of hands makes all the difference in the raising portion if nothing else. Even if your husband doesn't like the chicken idea, there is NO REASON he shouldn't at least help you to set the wall just to be the extra hands. Spouses should help each other even if they don't see eye to eye. What a dick move not helping at all

If you are having a really hard time getting the screws in, you could try pre-drilling the holes. Just be careful not to use a drill bit too big. Dont want to drill too big of a hole and have your screws not hold. I wish you the best of luck.

You guys are so awesome. Thank you for the great ideas - and the support!

ETA: Awesome Hometime link - I bought a "build your own shed book" but it's not quite that step by step or detailed. I need that!!!

You want plans and the understanding of do it yourselfers. Email [email protected] Granted I have been working 17 hours days. But I promise you this I will help you on any tips as I can. Like for instance when you build any wall granted how tall it is. Once you have a good level deck established always (and I can't stress this enough) build the walls on the flat floor. Then lift it up when constructed. Anchor it down with spare 2X4 on a roughly 45 degree angle.(to brace it up) Always with the ending studs for the corners double them up on two ends of the box frame. The other "sid e" walls use only only one corner stud/post Tow nail/screw it in. Trust I follow the moto "no such thing as a dumb question......"

Here is what I had as of Sunday. I have cross bracing on the back wall now. I think I need to quit building on the ground and build on the floor and that will help me immensly! My floor is perfectly level and square - if I can get right with the walls I will feel much better. I will give all these excellent suggestions a good go tomorrow night.

Our coop was the first thing that my husband had ever built (well, that doesn't burn petrol). We did it together and it took us all summer. Every precious weekend in our short MN season. But it did get done. My chickens were 3 months old and still living in my office. Not a pretty sight.

We didn't know what we were doing. We took as many pictures off the BYC that we could - mostly framing photos, to see how everyone else was doing it. And used a shed building book when we got stumped. But it got done. And no one died or got divorced. Well, almost, but we don't talk about that one.

And now we can proudly tell everyone that WE BUILT IT.

Let me tell you, if we can do it, you can do it. Have faith and give yourself lots of pats on the back. It's always hardest the first time through. Measure measure (and maybe measure one last time) and then cut. And if you maybe know a friend (or a friend's husband or kid) that can come and do it with you, all the better. Good luck - you can do it.
