Upper Respirtory?

UPDATE: Called my Vet, never spoke to him but relaying info thru Vet Tech ... Long story short, he said to continue with the Terramycin for 5 - 7 days. Asked about Tylan which he has for $130, found it on Walmart PetRX for $55 + tax/shipping but you need a prescription. Baytril came up but it's a "lifetime" withdrawal but forgot to ask the cost. Will continue with the Terramycin 2x day, VetRX and MHP at night with heat lite in brooder (she comes/goes into the patio).

I'm reluctant to put her on any antibiotic just yet ... I suspect MG yet maybe an allergy being that the only symptom she's having is the watery eyes, no other MG symptoms and she's gaining weight, not sick at all.

Thank you all for all your help and wisdom, it really is appreciated and valued :bow:hugs

Baytril is available as enrofloxacin through Jedds.com here:
https://jedds.com/products/enrofloxacin-10 for $20 plus shipping.
Dosage is 0.05 ml per pound (0.25 ml for a 5 pound bird) given orally twice a day for 5 days. It is one of the best antibiotics available, but is banned in chickens. Many vets will prescribe it in special cases. I would wait a month afterward to eat eggs, and you should be fine. It is useful to treat reproductive disorders and infections as well.

Tylosin generic tylan is also available from Jedds and is put in the water 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. No egg withdrawal and is approved for chickens. Here is a link:

If you wish to try children's Benedryl the dose is .5ml, wait 24 hours and give .5ml more. That's it. No more or overdosing is at risk.

I just got some Children's Benadryl, thank you for the suggestion and will be trying this first ... My internet research dose says 2 - 4mg per kg fo weight OR 2mg in a liter of drinking water every 12hrs.
Poquito is justs 10oz ... I've been out of school too long, using the calculator conversion on my phone came out with = 10oz is .28 kg = 0.252mg but then 1mg = .0001ml
My syringe is ml :barnie Thank you so very much for the dose information. I did call my Vet Tech again, the Vet wasn't in but said if I ordered the Tylan form Walmart PetRX, they'd contact him for the ok. And just, since she's a pet, Baytil is a consideration.

:bow Thank you all for your help and do appreciate ALL of it. Will update in a few weeks:hugs

March 6/Sun UPDATE: Tried the Benadryl but also called the Vet & he said "bring her in". I had a Friday last appointment. He was as perplexed as I am. Looked into her eyes, in her mouth & down her throat (she wasn't happy). Listened to her "chest" said everything looks fine, he did ask about bedding and possible allergy. Stop all treatments & update him Sunday/today, possibility of putting her on Baytril as it's a "broad spectrum" antibiotic.

Yesterday she woke late, watery eyes with bubbles but it all cleared up in the afternoon. This morning she woke with about 5 bubbles in her eye, so was planning on waiting until tomorrow to update Vet (It's only her R/eye) but then looked like her L/ear was swollen (pics). Sent pics to Vet & waiting, they're at lunch.

Baytril can treat pseudomonas which can be a cause of ear infections. It also can treat mycoplasma which can be a cause of the eye bubbles. There is a 10 day egg withdrawal time after discontinuing enrofloxacin (Baytril.)

So far the Vet preferring to "wait & see" ... The "ear infection" isn't, thankfully. Takes 2 hands to handle hold even a small chicken to examine ... Figured a way so my hands were free and discovered it's not an ear infection although her ear is "irritated" from all the scratching. Scratching due to the build up of VetRX behind her ear. It took awhile but got all the residue removed, swellings gone down, there wasn't as much behind the other ear. I felt so bad for being so dense ... VetRX is oil based & built up.

As for her eye/s ... Some mornings it's watery, others it's fine and haven't seen any bubbles lately. Tomorrow I'll call in and see if Vet will just put her on Baytri ... Tired of not knowing and according to him it's a "broad spectrum" antibiotic.
@Eggcessive ... I've read that once taking Baytril, eggs & meat not for consumption but I'm not eating her and I can just scramble her eggs for her treat.

Will assume she's contagious for life which ends my days of raising chicks for others :hit

Thank you all for putting up with my ramblings and trying to figure what Poquito's problem is. She's easy to care for and blended into the household ... Although she keeps intimidating my small dog & pushes the limit with the big one

Many people use Baytril if you read a lot of threads. The study I read recently said eggs had a residue for up to 10 days. Then it is okay to eat eggs. If you don’t trust that, wait a month. Testing is always helpful to know exactly if they have MG or whatever.

This is where living in Hawaii is frustrating ... No testing here.
Thank you very much for the info on Baytril.
I texted the Vets this morning due to my discovery this morning. I was not able to get a pic of the "cloudy mucus"... Pic #1 is after the fact. Wanting to get started on Baytril, have yet to hear back from Vets. I found this (pic #2) in my tray of chicken stuff; thought it was the Vitamin/Electrolytes; starting this afternoon. Need to find out about any withdrawal but it doesn't matter as she's about 3mo and got a ways to go yet.
:bow Appreciate all your advice/information and patience.
