UPSTATE NY chickenstock OCT 3rd Sunday!! -The aftermath and hatching

Cool pics, Nat! Doesn't your dog keep the predators away? He certainly looks like he is in protection mode. lol Is that a fox or a coyote in the pics? Jungle out there, isn't it! lol

yah you saw both well 3 raccoon-fox and coyote! I havent lost a bird in two years because they all get locked up at night! They cant get into garage and teh coop has wired floors with a ton of dirt over it! ba$$terds arent getting my babies! oh and the dog would kill my birds-haha he is never allowed to roam like that until all birds are locked up-he goes for alot of leash walks! My chihuahua though is the chicken lover-he sleeps with them in the sun-plays cat and mouse with them and he always loses-he's a goood dog:)

I also lock every bird in a coop at night, even tho the majority of them are in runs with netting over top. I am NOT taking any chances. But, my silkies are in 4' fences (what used to be our dog kennels). Still locked in at night, but no netting over the fences. Then, had that racoon (I think) attack last week in DAYLIGHT! Killed my three BEST silkies .... I was devastated. So, now I am building up the posts to 6', adding additional wire, and putting netting over top of them, too. Netting should arrive today --- I HOPE! Then, I'll be done with that project.... what a relief that will be!

Noticed the have-a-heart trap in the photos was sprung. Did you catch anything?

Nat, you know, telling Jeremy you want him to bring his gun, he will have waaaay too much fun with that!

But, anyway, those are some good pics. Makes me glad I lock all my birds up at night, too.

Geese are cool. And the sebbies are sooooo beautiful! And you don't usually see the saddlebacks, mostly the solid white. I have just too many with all the animals I have to care for. I am keeping only two.

These can free-range (they do here) and u can lock them up with the ducks at night. I got them from Patty (chickygirl 2). She is so good with her geese! At dusk she goes into her yard with a flashlight and walks slowly towards her barn calling the geese. Imagine a flock of about 40 geese (mostly sebbies) following a woman with a flashlight through the dark into a barn. lol What a sight that is!

That is cool!!!! Mine are 90% of the time already in garage at bedtime-my 3 calls linger out in baby pool:) My DH loves the calls because they are so tiny-he loves the bantams too-its the LF birds he has problems with..well not problems but he has Small buddies ( his rooster JJ and the calls) He likes the small animals a goose would scare the crap out of him haha

Another huge plus about chickenstock is getting rid of all the extras and lessening the feed and electric bills to heat them--Im not doing so good at that I guess..haha Ill "mention it to Dh" tonight as see what he says?? If I dont appear on BYC for a day or two it's because I have to let the swelling in my black eyes go down from a confrontation asking about geese now! LOL
