URGENT Advise from all your lovely guys here!!

nxt thing i have noticed. there is a small lump on her belly? lost now information overload

p.s she has a very stiff neck and refusing to hold it up.

i am thinking of taking her to the vet scared that matbe antibiotics will help her but dont want to waste a fortune to be told "cull her"

Update: I think whatever is wrong with my little girlie is starting to take hold. She is squeaking when she breathes, clicking her beak and acting as if she is drinking with her tongue (although she is just sitting and has already had something to drink)

Still refuses to eat on her own and her crop is still mostly full from last night. Poo is still mostly dark green with some brown matter in it.

She still has mites and her skin is so dry it is starting to flake. I cant believe i didnt notice the mites until last night.

She spends most of her time asleep but perks up when she gets held and stroked.

This is going to be my third chicken that dies and i just dont know what i am doing wrong. I dont want my other 6 chickens to suffer like these 3 have

I am sorry to hear that she is doing so poorly. A trip to your vet does sound in order with so many different symptoms going on at once. The vet may be able to relieve your mind that sometimes these things just happen and we are not to blame.

Hi everybody.

Well i went to the vet and he was very guarded in his pronosis.

He thinks that she may just have an infection and extremely run down as a result. She currently has a fever and actually smells quite sweaty i can see this!

He has given me antibiotics and apparently if this is it i should see an improvement by the weekend.

I have also been given some rabbit rescue as apparently this can be mashed up easily to be given through a tube or syringe.

However

He is still not happy to rule out mareks. He cant feel any tumors on her body but apparenlty this is slow onset? has anyone else had experience on this. She is still moving her legs and has managed to launch out of my lap a few times

Thank you verthandi and LynneP your advise has been amazing. The vet did say that if it is an infection my lilttle girl wouldnt have survived on her own. especially since she hasnt been eating.

You're most welcome. I have to say my experience is limited to my first and only flock but experience with a variety of other animals seems to apply well to chickens. I had a close call myself this morning with a hen, who showed possibly evidence of being eggbound but who seems fine now after aspirin and molasses feed. At the risk of sounding crass, I think what iobserved was the queen of all farts. Ahem. I will be watching her like a hawk, nevertheless, just in case. Good luck with your little girl, I'm very pleased you had veterinary assistance.

Launching out of your lap sounds like she is gaining some strength. Do the vet have an idea where the infection was located? You are lucky to have a vet that sees birds, around here they won't even try. I hope you see some improvement over the next couple of days. I appreciate your kind words, but I have been in your shoes with my birds, it is helpful to know that there are others out there that care. So I am just paying forward the kindness that others have done for me here.

this is the first one that i have found that deals with farm animals soi am lucky.

She is starting to hop a bit and looks perkier. still dont want to get my hopes up especially as he has mentioned the dreaded M word. but we'll see. i'll keep you updated!
