Urgent - Duck attacked by hawk, wounded on head

Sounds like she is getting full range of her neck again that is great news!! Any progress is great and she is making progress.:woot

Does she have grit available while she is recovering to eat along with her corn and peas? corn will take a lot longer to grind up she'll need grit, we sure don't want her blocked up along with everything else she is recovering from.

Yesterday she slept with her head tucked under her wing :)

I doubt she would eat any grit if we gave it to her (we don't have any on hand either because all our ducks are out in the dirt all day :D) but yesterday when she went out she wiggled her head around in the dirt a little. Any signs I should look for that she is blocked up? She's not eating corn anymore either so...

Crop big in the morning after going all night with out eating and sour smell coming from her mouth. As long as your taking her outside daily for a while she maybe getting what she needs.

So happy to hear she's doing better. Her eye maybe ok, it may be just swelling near the eye due to the puncture wound. I had a goose who was attacked by a cat and the cat bit her on both cheeks. The goose had swelling on both of her cheeks and gasped for air for 2 days before we finally figured out that her throat was swollen as well which caused difficulty with her breathing. So with that said, if it is swelling from the tissue near her eye, it may resolve itself once the wounds completely heal and the swelling decreases until gone. Just sooooo happy to hear the poor girl is showing signs of healing, and I know you are too! :ya Keep us posted please.....

My mom bought some live meal worms (they're pretty expensive!!!) and 6 minnows. She gobbled the mealworms up... and then we gave her the minnows. I don't think she realized they were minnows, but once she did you should have seen her! Wish I could've gotten a video. Still won't touch her food though. Right now she's out with her buddies, she walks with her head slightly turned with her good eye to the front, poor thing:(

She's showing great improvement though! All your help is very much appreciated! :)

She was out the entire day today... even took a bath... but still has not eaten regular food. Starting to get pretty worried for her. She is preening and it seems she has regained complete range of motion for her neck including rubbing it on her oil gland. In the morning she ate salmon skin (wouldn't eat any actual salmon) but now she won't eat that either. Other than that and some more meal worms today and peas she hasn't eaten anything. Except for maybe some bugs she found outside though I doubt she got much.

Is there anything to do to encourage her to eat? Is not giving her anything to eat and just leaving her with the regular food a good idea? She is touching her bill to the food then shaking her head as if to say "Nope! I refuse to eat that."

Have you weighed her, keeping track of her weight? Might be a good idea to look into tube feeding her, get some Kaytee baby bird food and that will give her balanced nutrition...
