Urgent! Duckling Hit By Car

Update:

First, I really want to thank everyone that's helped so far. The tike has a much better shot at recovering with everyone here! Thank you!

It finally ate a tiny bit! I picked up starter grower and crushed up some of my B vitamins in it. It didn't eat much, but it's the first food it's eaten. I also picked up some poultry electrolyte & vitamins for the water. I checked if it's feet reacted when gently pushed, s/he pushed hard back with both feet. So that's encouraging hopefully. I guess it's just a waiting game now.

I have heard about them being invasive in areas, but to intentionally steer a vehicle toward them to kill them is incomprehensible! :barnie

It's a small neighborhood that's packed together with dozens of them everywhere. And now several dozen more babies. Honestly, they are over run, and I sympathize with their frustration. But I still get sick at the thought that the tracks point to it being intentional. Could it have been an accident? Sure, but from what I saw, I doubt it.

It was too perfectly aimed and no signs of jerking or slowing, just turn in, run over, and a gentle turn back to the road. Mud depth was even, so they went the same spead through out too. Not what I'd expect if someone lost contol for a moment.

And last month the serial cat dumper dumped yet another litter of kittens in the empty lot next to my house. I actually saw the truck this time, so at least I know who to look for next time. Caught one of the kittens, but at least 2 others took off. Every flipping year, same people I'd bet. It's not like blue cats are common, and there's one in every litter dumped. I'm losing my faith in the people around here.... :he

It happens every where all over this world. Very sad when there are spay neuter clinics everywhere and some even offer free.

Very sad about the Muscovy's also they are prolific breeders and hatch out many ducklings and now they can be killed at random although I read it is suppose to be humane well being run over by a car doesn't sound humane to me but being bludgeoned to death doesn't either and I had read of that happening also . I have to practice birth control here with mine to keep them from hatching out when they would like. We Muscovy lovers really need to be able to keep our birds at home and not add to the craziness of what is going on in some states. I am sorry you had to witness that and have to deal with other peoples refusal to care for their own animals but would rather dump them on someone. Very sad.

I sure hope the little one is doing good today! He doesn't know how blessed he is to have you come along when you did.

He ate more last night. Still not much, but it's an encouraging start. Also moved again sometime last night. Otherwise not much change. Still alert.

Sorry for the vent. It's just really bad here with how people treat animals in general.

She moved great in a bath! She also stood up and walked a couple wobbly steps to hide in the corner of the pet crate after the bath. That's the first time she took more then 2 steps without falling down! Yesterday she was still butt scooting to get around!

I have a very gentle bantam cochin pullet, I was wondering if putting her in with the duckling for a bit might help it's morale? Or is it a horrible idea?

Eh, worth a shot, just be ready to quickly intervene if either pick on the other.
