Urgent! Duckling Hit By Car

Personally, I love ducks. I raised them a lot when I was younger. Wether I can convince my husband (probably) is the deciding factor if he starts improving.

Duck Haven is the name of the rescue in SE Florida I believe (Thanks! I just googled it). They are a little over and hour from me, so that may be an option over the weekend sometime depending on how the little guy is doing.

Returning to his mom at this point is a death sentence for him unfortunately. He's barely standing, there's no way he could follow her. I bawled when we drove past her still waiting, I even (stupidly) promised her I'd take good care of him and that I was sorry about her other baby. If he heals up soon though, returning him to her might be an option, but it's in a densly packed neighborhood over run with ducks already.

Sadly, I have a feeling a frustrated homeowner from the area saw a chance to possibly rid themselves of a few nuisance ducks and took it. They muddy tire tracks showed they veered in the ditch and right back out again without stopping. The other duckling was squished into the mud with tracks right on top of it.

Some people are pretty sick and twisted.

How’s the baby doing ? Any chance of getting the dead ducklings taken care of so mama stops being by the road?

He's alert, drinking, pooping a ton, and scooting when he wants to move. Which so far is only when he's scared. He's in a small pet carrier to reduce the (slim) chance of trying to hop. Seems like it is definitely nerve spine related based on the movements he does make. His head and neck move wonderfully, and he's fiesty. He tries to bite me anytime I come close. He's not eating yet, but I figured that would be the case.

I don' live near there, but I visit the area fairly frequently. I have a feeling she took her 2 healthy duckling somewhere eventually. At least I keep telling myself that. I didn't even think to move the other baby at the time, I was so focused on saving this guy. Heck, it was deep enough in the mud I didn't notice it until I almost stepped on it....

Poor things very sad . Well hopefully with some rest and TLC from you he’ll recover. Might even try letting him: her have some tub time nice warm water to float in might be a way of seeing how he can move those legs when supported in water. Always stay when even having a healthy duckling in water.
