WOW!!!

I can't believe that! anyone with that much land should be able to own a goat, horse, rooster- whatever they want!

Back in the day EVERYONE owned thier own chickens/turkies/sheep etc....now it seems people have to FIGHT to have the right to have these sorts of critters even though they have adequate land just because OTHER PEOPLE want to live in the 'country and not hear COUNTRY noises!!??" so messed up!

Here in my inner city neighborhood there are drunks and street fights and people swearing screaching tires and my elderly neighbor next door (who worked for the town hall) complained about my 2 (yes only TWO!!!!) 'chickens' making noise!! I was like with all this constant racket your going to complain about peeping hens!!??

her comment to me was "well its city noise, its normal"....

Ok...then if screaming and swearing and fighting and cars and dogs barking is normal 'city noise' then Baaahhing, clucking, quacking and neighing and cockadoodle dooing is 'country noise!'

I say if you have 7 acres located between plant farms thats plenty 'country'/rural.

The sad thing is there are instances where city people move to the country- right next to a FARM and then have the nerve to complain about smell and noise and then the farmers wind up having to deal with accomidating the city folk. Its unreal. Dont like poop and noise, dont move next to a FARM!

OY! I wish you luck with all that.....I know how you feel...Everytime my hens make a noise I am paranoid someone is listening and waiting to complain....Yet I can hear my neighbors tv blaring at midnight.....go figure........

Hopefully your neighbors will be more forgiving now that they know you LOVE your birds and they mean so much to you!

It was for a specail permit, and it was an open heering , the neighbors were able to speakout.
They ruined it.

They almoat said yes, but then the lady just would not shut up.

Who held the meeting? Hearing Officer? Health Board? City Council? etc.

What lady wouldn't shut up? A neighbor or a city official? What reasons were given against your birds? According to code, is this kind of meeting supposed to be open to the public? For example, if I want to build something on my property that requires a variance to my zoning laws, it requires an open meeting. But If I want to build something that meets all code, it does not.

If you can appeal, be sure to take photos of the property showing the extent of open land surrounding your home. Go to google or yahoo maps and get satellite photos that show where the complaining neighbor is compared with your home (distance). You've previously said that you live on commercial property. Would there be a difference if your birds are part of a business endeavor versus being kept for pets/exhibition?

Perhaps you could provide sound insullation to your garage where they sleep?
