US citizens do you know you you lack a very basic right?

It started out political. Everyone just left mention of that fact out of the conversation for a while. Just about everything that effects our life including religion is political in nature. Politics and money are very tightly interwoven. In a representative democracy there is no way around it. The people with the most money get most of the pie and everything is designed to benefit them. Our food system is designed for the masses. Our government participation is absolutely necessary in the food process.

That being said they don't have any reason to interfere in what we grow for our own consumption. I haven't seen any indication of that happening with the exception of marijuana. When someone has a public official come to their house and rip out their tomato plant and send them to jail please post it. Otherwise it's all just scare tactics.

Food should be regulated. The question was asked why there wasn't anybody inspecting that egg farm. The answer is lack of funding. Our political system at work again. People with money getting their way. Money given to building unneeded weapons instead of inspecting for bad health conditions. Congressmen in key positions refusing to vote for something that is really needed unless everyone else agrees to build some fighter jet that the Air Force doesn't want or need.

I would say that it is our fault, we put them there. Problem is you can only vote for the choices given to you.

Actually, they do think they have a reason to interfere in what we grow and it is mostly involving supplements. Anybody remember a time that hemp was grown in the U.S.? The government used to pay farmers to grow it. It is a very beneficial crop but it is not legal to GROW in the U.S. any longer. You can order it from Canada or another country and have it shipped to you; it is just not legal to GROW. How can the FDA be pretending to protect our safety with this plant (as an example) but allow us to purchase, possess and consume it as long as it is imported? Don't start with the relation to the
'canibus' family; its relation to marijuana is about the same as a house cat/kitten to a tiger - same family but the danger just isn't the same.

This is a real bill and the consequences of it passing are less freedom for the U.S. consumer. No scare tactics; this is real. I'm not worried about my tomatoes. I'm worried about my St. John's Wort, comfrey, plaintain, yarrow, elder flower, etc...

I would argue it's not lack, but priority of spending. WI's DATCP (Dept of Ag, Trade & Consumer Protection) has been focusing a lot of time and resources in the last couple years to wipe out the raw milk supply. Issuing farms with cease and desist orders, refusing to renew dairy licenses, raids, harassment, etc. The vast majority of these farms have had no reports of illness associated with their product, which tells me the state has an agenda other than food safety.

Why focus on such a small segment of the food supply (raw milk drinkers)? If they were really so worried that raw milk was dangerous, they would not allow the farmers themselves to consume it (state law permits owners and employees of dairies to drink it.) No, it's just extreme nanny-statism.

I'm still not certain where the opposition was coming from. The legislature overwhelmingly supported the raw milk bill and the Wisconsin Farmers' Union supported it. Governor Doyle vetoed it, stating that there was "unified opposition" against it and that we needed to protect the reputation of the state's dairy products and avoid any damage to our industry. Yet afterwards everybody was wondering what opposition he was talking about.

Cheese Makers Asso
WI Medical Society
National Milk Producers Federation
International Dairy Foods Association
WI Farm Bureau
WI Dairy Business Association

Here's a question that nobody seems to ask: Is S-510 permitted by the Constitution in any way, shape or form? I seem to be the only one who asks that question; it needs to be asked by every American. The Constitution is the cornerstone of this country, but Congress is ignoring it. The ABSOLUTE CORE of any discussion of an act of Congress needs to be its constitutionality. All other aspects are irrelevant unless:

#1: It's an amendment.
#2: It is Constitutional.

I don't see how it could be permitted by the Constitution. I also realize that may not keep it from becomming law and challenged in court for years before being repealed, if passed in the first place. I really don't care to have any more of my constitutional rights stomped on any more than they already have been...

Congress has been ignoring the Constitution for WAY too long. What was it that Patrick Henry said about using force? Oh, yeah!

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force."

Think about that one for a moment. You'll find that you agree.

The drug companies hate alternative treatments. The market has developed outside of their control and influence and they make no profit from it. The companies have persuaded governments and the medical profession that it's bad. St. John's Wort is a good example. The medical establishment in the UK, effectively with government support, launched a whispering campaign against it. They also will tell patients that Chinese medicine is potentially dangerous but are vague as to why beyond the statement that you don't know what's in it. Needless to say, doctors continued to prescribe drugs with side effects worse than the complaint. It's not just the mind drugs that are dangerous, read the leaflets with just about any drug and you'll see a long list of possible side effects.

So, creeping restriction of the individual's right to grow what he or she wants at home will continue. Are there any lobby groups to support the home farmer?

Yep. Possibly the most effective, too. Goes by the various names of Remington, Winchester, Kalashnikov, Marlin, Bushmaster, Colt, Smith & Wesson, H&K, etc. etc.
