Using caution around Emu kicks?

pretty much acting like he intended to kick through me, like ...for lack of a better expression ...a steel drum.
At this moment i had vision of a man. A man leaning back casually in a chair, in his left hand a oil can of Fosters larger. "doesn't think a emu can kick punch through 44 gallon drum"...he pauses for a moment and in one smooth motion finishes the beer and opens a fresh can..."reckon he'll think better when it kicks him in his dumb Yank face." Kangaroo nods in agreement, and they both laugh.

lmao!
How old is your emu? Mine are 7 months now. I'm concerned for the future. I know how much my ducks even changed, and the male chases me around and nips me when he can after he reached sexual maturity.and THAT scares me a bit. FROM A DUCK. So I am like... trying my best to think brave thoughts when it comes to these super tall, strong emu that will probably soon outgrow me in height.

Funny what triggers them. A rake. Who knew?

My male has gone full on aggressive, like crazy attack aggressive. there was the rake thing. then a peace for a few days. Then he got all broody and started covering the eggs with straw and trying to set on them. now he is a madman, hissing and biting at me when i come in the pen. decided to tale in a wooden oar just in case he tried to attack me. glad i did, had to use it keep him back. he ever threw a few kicks my way.The change in daylight and i assume hormones have made him at totally different bird. Not going to let anyone else in the pen till this passes. the good side of this ? i betting my eggs are fertile. Also my female is doing these crazy courtship dances that are pretty cool to watch. even though he is being aggressive, my male is also ultra cool. he comes charging at you hissing with his feathers all fluffed out it a pretty awesome sight. caution is the word of the day but an aggressive emu is still better than a sneaky little bantam rooster that attacks you from behind.

Wow! That sounds terrifying and exciting. haha (mostly terrifying)
Part of me just hopes I have all one gender of emus. But I'm sure that wouldn't stop hormonal behavior.
If this ever happens to me, I'm getting an oar. I'm going to call it the matt swenson techinique.

one gender could be worse, two aggressive males might beat each up. i also heard that females with out a male don't lay eggs, so then you just have two "poop"machines to feed. hopeful when the breeding season passes things will go back to normal.
I'm curious if he will be as aggressive today as there is no egg on the "nest". I had one egg freeze, so been on top of collecting them right after they have been laid. usually getting them when they are still warm. yesterday i had to work late so Elvis (the male) got to the egg first and had covered it with hay. wondering if because he had taken "possession" egg is why he was so aggressive/protective.
overall having a breeding pair is pretty cool. (i know none of my eggs have hatch and i'm jumping the gun calling the a breeding pair, still fingers crossed)
if things get more aggressive there are still plenty of safe ways i could deal with him and collecting eggs.
