Because I don't cook unless it can be prepared in a crock pot or a microwave oven, I have repurposed several metal baking pans for treats. That was a real pain - because they get so icky so fast - until I bought a portable sink unit to set up in the back yard. Now I can wash them - in cold water, but with dish soap - out there. Mostly the ick is mud and dust and yes, some poop.
I also have a few plates which are those I use for the chickens and dogs and cats because they aren't the right size for much else.
But IF I cooked, I wouldn't have a problem using people plates for chickens, dogs or cats. Washing with soap and hot water - and maybe scrubbing on some stuck on stuff - would be sufficient to sanitize them for my use again.
I figure if I ate dirt as a child, if I pick up cookies and M&Ms from the floor according to the 5 second rule
then I can eat off washed dishes once used by my companion animals.
