Utah!

Sasha, thought I would let you know, that Elvis is doing fine. She went into the coop on her own last night. She stays pretty much with the pullets. Or, on her own. She will come to me when I am down looking at the babies in the grow out pen, she sneaks right up on me. :) Cute. Everyone gets a kick out of her.

Crossing fingers for a pip by tomorrow afternoon. That egg was full, and it has a nice round air sac, not one that goes up the side.

Hey, if you haven't already seen this before, google ... clever bird uses bread as bait.. smart bird!

Okay, my RIR, BSL, and one of the EE's are all 28 weeks old, and no eggs at all. I searched through much of the yard, but didn't find anything. They get a mix of scratch, layer pellets, and plenty of free range time, plus I have offered them crushed eggshells and oyster shell. They've got plenty of places to choose from to lay that give them privacy. I think I must be doing something wrong

And no bugs, at least not that I've seen. I tend to grab the birds at random and inspect them while they're ranging.

Kimmy you need to water your run. i can still see grass, the roots are probable still alive. with this dry weather you need to water alot. don't worry about your girls getting wet, they probably will enjoy it. my girls will walk though the sprinkles like its not even there. sometimes they stop right in the middle to eat bugs that are trying to escape the flood. i water their run 3 times a week. i have even added some squash plants to their run. they wont eat the plant but they love the squash as it comes on. they Even seem to know when its ready to eat cause they don't eat it until its ready for the BBQ. OK so maybe they are a little spoiled.

Red, that is too crazy you have a 28 wk old RIR with no egg yet. She is going to bust an egg out anyday I am sure. And the BSL? Mine started at 22 wks....so should be soon. Watch they will all start on the same day haha! What a day that will be! Ohhhh I cannot wait to hear about your first egg from this bunch. That will be the day your computer dies and you can't tell us ha!

Cynthia, that video was amazing, thanks for the link ;)

Hi, all!

I'm never going to remember what I wanted to reply to everyone, but....Kimmy, congrats on your egg! Loved all the pictures, too.

Sphinx, I'm so relieved for you! I'm still sorry your girl(s) died, no matter the cause.

Cynthia, thanks for the update on Elvis! I'm glad she's doing well. :D

I hope everyone's hatch goes well this weekend. I expect lots of pictures!

I was lucky enough to place both Polish cockerels the past 24 hours. After waiting weeks for someone to want to give them a home, the WC black when to a new home yesterday, and the WC cuckoo (Zorro, aka Lisa's Villain) when to his new home in American Fork today. The gal from AF is named Leslie, a sweetheart of a cutie. She's here on BYC! I told her she needed to come socialize with us.

Oh, Leslie! Where are you??? She has another Polish, and some silkies.

I don't know what to do with Hedwig. She's laid in the nest box once. Just once. She insists on laying her eggs from the roost. I've had 3 broken eggs in the last 2 weeks because of it. (I try to keep the straw thick where her favorite roosting spot is.) Any ideas?

i'm leaving for Columbus Ohio today for a cat show. its the biggest show of the year. Looking forward to going but am sad that my eggs will be left at Eds tender mercies. I was going to buy a hatch cam so I could watch remotely but I forgot what kind sphinx told me to get. I have cream legbars and Araucanas due to hatch on Saturday. I will be home late Sunday night. Will see what kind of luck I have.

Sundance, I am so tempted to go by your house Saturday and see how your eggs are doing. You don't have to buy any particular brand. You could just go to the electronics store/walmart/target and get a $15-$20 camera. Plug it in to the computer, it'll automatically install whatever driver it needs. Then go to Ustream.com and set up an account, and then you can start broadcasting. Ustream even has a mobile app so that you can check on it from your smart phone. And, silly girl, you're always welcome to call me!

Sasha, congrats on getting the polish cockerels placed. I bet it feels great to know they're going to good homes. No idea what to do about Hedwig. My chickens have always been so good about laying in the boxes. I see the occasional egg just outside the box, which makes me think they got impatient waiting for it to be empty (because there's always an egg IN the box when there's one just outside). And in all the time I've kept chickens, I've only found two outside the henhouse, and they were both from the last batch of chickens.
