Utah!

Hattie, I am so, so sorry for the loss of your Gertie. How sad. It does sound like it was very quick and she didn't suffer. It's still a very sad thing.

Sundance, sounds like a crazy day for you guys. We didn't get more than a light sprinkle up here. Of course that happened while I was out running this morning.

I have to admit we didn't glue our vinyl down, we just nailed it. Charming, huh? I think when you're done with your coop, the two of you will sit in your swing, admire it, and laugh together about the adventure it was. I'm glad you have some EE pipping. I felt so bad that none of your cream legbars hatched. That's such a bummer.

Cynthia, loved seeing the pictures from the farewell. It looks like it was a really nice time. It sounds like your NN hatch is going fairly well. I have a tough time when they go into lockdown and then don't hatch. I've only had it happen a couple times, but it's really sad.

Red, glad you figured out the secret egg spot, but sorry there was only one egg there. I don't blame you for grabbing the BO and taking her home before something happened to her.

Hattie, I am so sad with you about Gertie :( I feel so bad that it had to happen so sudden like that! Good for her, not for you....poor girls, you both!

Cynthia, I am super wanting that splash baby but hoping someone on here will be in your area maybe. Can you hang on to her for just abit? There is no way I can drive that far for one baby right now things are crazy with mykids schedules. If anybody hears of a person going by Cynthia then back north at all...let me know :) I am checking around to see if any of my friends here in Logan are going that way for any reason.

Red, hope no more chickens go missing! Glad you have one more closer to watch.

Sphinx have fun at the fair! Wish I could go with you, we have stuff every night this week :(

Sundance, good luck with your coop! Sounds like so much work, I bet it will be amazing when you are done. Our 10x10 playhouse (aka "The Mancave") is almost done, just need to paint it. He has electricity out there, bluray/tv/netflix...bunkbed....a deck out on the side up in the air by the roof, so he goes up a ladder to it. Will have to post pics. But I have seen how much work, lol... I feel for you guys! I think my husband is having more fun out there than my son. He has all his football memorabilia hanging up out there, my son pretends he does not mind, what a good boy.

Oh, Hattie, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Gertie was such a pretty girl! :( I want to just cry with you.
(You're welcome for the tour. It was fun to have you visit!)

Red, yay for finding the hidden egg spot!

Cynthia, loved the pictures.

Forgot your user name, something about NewToChickensUT or something...welcome! LOL

Sphinx, my DD will be going to the fair on Wednesday with her FFA group, and the rest of us are tentatively going down that afternoon/evening.

Sundance, yay for pips! And it sounds like your new coop will be great.

Casa, your son's (husband's? LOL) Man Cave sounds awfully fun! :)

My mom, dad, oldest daughter and I went ATVing up in the mountains today. In the rain. The cold, mountain rain. But we had fun anyway. :) Will post a few pictures tomorrow if I get a chance.

Oh yeah, and....cracked open a Liz egg and a Hedwig egg...both fertile. I guess with bantam roo's, where there's a will, there's a way!

Hey guys,
I'm back I had a wonderful time seeing Sasha and seeing her wonderful place. She has the sweetest family and I loved hearing about the history of her home. How neat to live there. Such a beautiful little town too. I loved it. Thanks Sasha for the tour.
I have bad news though. My sweet Gertie died today.

My chickens were all making noises and so I went out to see and there she was laying there dead. She had had an egg today and I had seen her earlier and she was fine. In examining her she looks to have a prolapsed vent. Could she die that quickly? She has been fine ever since I got home. I don't understand. I'm just so sad I didn't even know to help her because I didn't know anything was wrong.:hit

I am sooooo sorry for you loss of Gertie:( I would be soooo sad!!!

So neat congrats.  Where did you order your coop from?

I found this guy on KSL! His company is called AllCooped Up he does an awesome job! In fact he has built some for the fair so if you go you can see them! I'm sure he will have his sign and info there. I just can't wait to get ours!!!! We just talked to him last night and we had to ask him to make it bigger.......since I am getting sooooo many lovely girls:lol:!!!! So we won't get the coop till Sat hopefully!!!!! I'll for sure post pics ASAP!!
Last night my sweet hubbie made me a bigger pen to keep my big girls with my babbies:lol: I'll take some pics today after I get kids off o school and post them;)

Lisa, the mancave sounds like it'll be really neat when it's all done.

Sasha, ATVing in the cold rain doesn't sound like my idea of a good time, but I'm glad you had fun. I'm giggling that the bantam managed to get the eggs fertilized.

I have to admit that today is a day I wish I just had a nice pet rock instead of live animals. My one calf has a cold, and didn't transition well to be being weaned, so he's back to the bottle. I've been having to give him a bottle twice a day, and it looks like that will be the pattern for a few more weeks. The other one seems like his eye is funny, but I suspect it's my imagination. I've thought that before, and then when I look at him close up, he seems fine. Also, the one BLRW that I saved for myself from the school hatch just went down. She was fine yesterday, but wasn't on the perch with the others last night, which I thought was odd. This morning I checked on her, and she's definitely not well. I separated her and she's already significantly worse- laying on her side. I'll bet she's dead within a couple hours. What's crazy about this is she's from the "clean" coop, and had no exposure to the other hen, so this is completely unrelated. I have a ton of wild birds in my yard, I wonder if one of them gave her something. I have no idea.

Thanks guys. My little flock doesn't know what to do without Gertie she was the kindest little ring leader.

Sasha I got your little Polish to give her another Polish friend and now she will be alone. Bummer.
Cynthia I'm thinking one roo and one pullet. I'm so glad your sons farewell went well. Exciting times for you. It was so good to see you again.
Hey everyone who is new to BYC
welcome-byc.gif

I've missed so many posts on here I need to do some catching up.

Sphinx it is just terrible what you are having to go through! What could be going on with your chickens!? I'm so sorry this keeps happening but they must be unrelated because you had the last one tested. :/ Hope it stops what ever is going on.
