Utah!

I found this product and thought it looked great. I ordered one thinking I could put the moms and babies in it during the day. That way they could go out and I wouldn't have to stay with them. I've had a couple of magpies around so I don't feel that they are safe without me or some kind of cage. Yesterday even one of the hens was going after them.

I also finally hung some of the nipple buckets in my coups yesterday. I have not had very good luck with them in the past but I pulled the water from everyone in the morning and hung them in the afternoon. The blue egg layer pen learned right away not so sure about the seramas or the regular egg layers. Any ideas how I can encourage them to drink? The others just started drinking immediatly but the Seramas and other main coop just ignored them

I have never had an issue with any chick not being able to figure out the nips.

My current chicks have used it since day 1. Chickens naturally peck at red color. Once they peck and realize there is water they are hooked.

Wow, that is great sundance. I just may have to get one. Did you say they are on back order? I wonder how long it would take for one to get here.

I am tired of playing easter egg hunt. Seems like if I let the girls out in the yard they lay their eggs all over the place and I'm tired of looking for them I had heard such good things about these boxes so I decided to get a couple yesterday Went to IFA. No I did not buy any chicks but I did clean a few buts. I put them up threw some hay in them for bedding and voila this morning there were eggs in both of them. I let the hens out and we will see what happens this afternoon. Here is a link to see what they look like

We have one of those too. Works great in the coop and is easy to clean after a hen decides to sleep in it.

Okay, officially overrun with chicks here! So far, 21 of the huge batch I put in lockdown have hatched and there are something like another 25 in there (some of which are pipped). I'm going to put some BLRW chicks and the Legbar boys that hatched out (what is with all the stinking boys?!) up on KSL as soon as I have time (yeah, that should be in a month or so!). If anyone here wants some, let me know. I'm having a heck of a time not putting the eggs I picked up at the land today into the bator, but if I just keep going in the other room to look at the sea of chirping chicks, I think I might be able to resist.

On a less chick-infested note, one of my Isbar hens has an injury and has bought her own personal pen with it. We took her up to the land to have a conjugal visit with her boyfriend and, while he was, ahem, "visiting" with her, he got a little too frisky and literally ripped the skin off the back of her neck. Wierd. She, oddly, doesn't seem to care much, since she just stood up, shook it off, and started eating. Anyway, that bought her a one-way ticket back here to the house to recover for a few weeks, at least. If any guy ripped the skin off the back of my neck, I'd take a cast iron skillet to his nether region.

Be warned--conjugal visitors lol!!

Too bad about the Isbar hen though seriously. He must have missed her something fierce :) Fingers in ears when you speak of fertile eggs---lalalalalalala! Haha :p
