I have a question for you. Is my Delaware a boy? For some reason I keep thinking it could be a rooster. Since everyone here is a pro I thought I ask. Here are some pics. Please tell me it's a girl

Thats a tuff one. Big comb but not red. Skinny little legs. How old is the chick?

Gary she is about 6 weeks. Her legs are definitely bigger than the other chick's. sigh. If you want to look at it in 'person' I can always run her over to you since you are close.

I am 90 percent sure that Delaware is a SHE. I had two, and they were crazy red compared to a lot of other breeds early on, I really thought they were both boys, but they were hens. One went to Joybells and she was sure hers was a boy for a long time too. And they were soooo much redder than yours at that size so I think you are safe. The feathering all looks girlish. Birdguy had like 50 of these last year so ask him to be sure :) They mature fast so get big fast....they will start laying early(mine did at 16 weeks!) And they are supposed to be a big breed, although mine was quite dainty compared to the others that she came with.

Ok, I'm done with my Easter hatch along so now I need some more eggs to hatch. I only got 6 to hatch out and I can have 6 but with my luck 5 or 6 of them are Roos. Does anyone in the SLC or Tooele area have some nice, cheap hatching eggs available, not barnyard mix?

Thank you Lisa. I really hope she is a girl. I am a bit scared of roosters lol Those two are so different than my other girls. It is like you say, they matured so much faster. I moved them into the coop last night. They are skittish but the big girls leave them alone.

I'll have more BLRW eggs early next week if you want them. Sold the ones I brought down today. The only other ones I currently have are some Isbar/Marans crosses.

lluvia, my slw is easily half the size of the other girls her age, always has been, i heard that they mature slowly, but i got her when she was about six weeks old so i don't know if this is helpful
Thank you Rykel, you give me hope. I will keep my fingers crossed

that she is just a little gal. :)
Some times you get a chick that has failure to thrive. As long as she is eating and drinking I wouldn't worry about her. She could be some kind or natural mutation that would make her a bantam
Okay thank you Sundance, she is still eating and drinking just like the others. So I guess I will wait and see. I will have to post a pic so you can all see the size difference. I would be ok with the bantam thought too-as long as she is healthy and happy I don't care how small she stays.
