Utah!

Ugh. I for got to take out the turning tray and put in paper towels in my incubator. I remembered just now, but I already have a pip... Should I just leave them on the tray? They should be fine.... Right?!?

Hey, I just saw a pip too! Go ahead and get them out of that tray! They can get stuck inbetween the racks. Should be fine..do it quick...mist spray the eggs as you are closing the lid. Here is my pip. :)

Sundance..does this mean you have Sammy back at your house?

You know why I'm asking right?

My incubator is full for another 10 days and all my broodys are sitting on eggs but my incubator will be available in 15 days, just saying.
Yes but the hen isn't laying she is moulting sorry

I'm so very jealous of your pips. We are only at day 19, keep saying they shouldn't hatch till Saturday, not till Saturday, not till Saturday. But I won't be home most of the day on Saturday, so I want them to come out now! Still have my wigglers though, so here's home they come tomorrow. :D

Jealous of pips too! I got my chicken eggs in late, so they won't hatch til Mon-Tue. I am hoping for quail babies on Sunday though :fl Cynthia the olive eggs are very pretty!

Just great! I think my little Bantam Cochin is going broody. I let the girls out into the main backyard this morning, and they all came running but her. So I went looking for her, and she was in the box. Didn't think much of it thinking she was laying an egg. Go back out around 9:30 to give them left over scrambled eggs, I always make a ton, more so for the girls. HeHe. And she was still in the box 3 hours later. So I when to grab her out and she is complete spread out like she has a billion eggs under her. So I go to get her and she actually peaked me and made me bleed, something she has never done before, so I grabbed her little butt, and she was grumbling the whole way out. And no eggs under her. Brought her out and right back in she ran. Just went back outside and she is still in there, and she not letting anyone in the box, and its the main laying box, and the girls are all up in a tissy fit screaming outside. Just great! If I knew if she was for sure serious, I would give her 3 or 4 of those EE eggs that are due to hatch on Saturday. Dang it!

Exactely! It was very sad to see :( I also couldnt believe how many chicks she had in there and how smelly it was. She crammed all the day old babies in tiny boxes and when I came back a few days later I actually watched her take out 2 dead babies that were in with them and just tossed them into the trash with the cracked egg shells. She didnt seem bothered at all. I am shocked she's doing this right out of her tiny garage thats connected to her house. That cannot be healthy, no matter how clean she tried to keep it which I dont thin she was trying very hard. I am sure the health department woudl shut her down if they knew :s Those poor babies. I to thought her prices were kinda high but I wanted bearded silkies so I bought them anyway but ended up loosing half of them :(
Hi all, it's been forever. I have to chime in here -- I had an order placed and held off, just a gut feel plus the concern that she also takes in a bunch of chickens (no matter sex, age, laying or not). I'm concerned about diseases... just letting another owner in your coop can be hazardous if precautions aren't taken. She told me some are hatched under broody hens (saw those ads early on in spring) and repeated ads under different names with same wording, pics. Seriously, what does someone do with a bazillion roosters or older hens? The ads state they don't eat them, they are used for bug control but something doesn't add up.

That kind of "set-up", imo, could spell disaster for many of us chicken lovers (and city ordinances that have been granted), wouldn't you think?

And on another note, anyone notice the lack of Speckled Sussex this year? My feedstore and IFA (who tried 4 suppliers) said they aren't hatching well. I've called each delivery day to several stores and the SS are "no-shows" everytime. I got my broilers but the SS were MIA and I tell ya, it's not so much fun having chickies that you know you can make pets/layers.

Maybe I'm paranoid but between this and the lack of big turkeys last year (I'm in grocery retail) makes me wonder if GMO's aren't playing a part. (I know that sounds radical but GMO corn fed to animals is real ugly).

Anyhow's I haven't seen anything first hand, and I'd LOVE a local hatchery, but for now I'll settle for chicks off BYC or Desert Springs I want to get on her Creme Legbar and Black Copper Maran waiting list.... or big hatcheries (ugh...but they hv clean room conditions and NPIP) .

Oh.... if the young man that had that pet black silkie roo is reading -- he's still here and loving all his girls! I hatched a few of his offspring under a broody last year. Got the cutest tiny Americana with fluffy feet. :)

Take care all!

I am sure Taylorsville Animal Control doesn't know about her or they would shut her down in a heart beat. I live just a few blocks from her and bribe my neighbors with eggs. I even have 3 roos but one complaint would shut me down
