Utah!

Well I went there and got 6 hatching eggs, 5 of which are in lock down, and I was so very shocked when I found her address, I thought I was going to a farm or something of the sort, and it was in her single car garage. And it was extremely smelly, cramped and she had at least 50-60 chicks in each tote she had, you couldn't even see the floor of the totes, I really was in somewhat of a shock. And I really felt like taking all of those babies. She did tell me that about 80% of what she has she does have shipped in, so not sure why she says hatching weekly, maybe because she has shipments weekly. But after she told me that she had separate pens for each breed, I read further on her website, which has now changed, so the chicks that I have I thought were going to be pure bred, not like I really care, but the leghorns might be but my Welsummers no, she doesn't have a Welsummer Roo, I called back and asked after all the posts on KSL. She said that it will still be a Welsummer. I was like okay.

But I was really shocked at her setup. And I would have only bought chicks to rescue them for trampling each other. She really tried to get me to buy some too, and told me she would give me a great deal. I know when I was there her husband or some guy was spraying out tote with the hose, so maybe that is why they were so very full. But I was still in shock at how they were kept and that she could actually run that out of her garage like that.

I don't want to bad mouth her or anything, because I didn't buy chicks, but my eggs were for sure fertile, all but 1 was pulled out.

On the side note. I just had a Young Men/Women's group I think that is what they are called, not LDS, but they were on a scavenger hunt that was more trade for something better. They gave me lug nuts for fresh laid chicken eggs. HAHAHAHA! I took them out to the coops, I told them I could trade them a chick, more so as a joke, and they were like I want to see your chickens, so I took them out to the coops, and Ryan hadn't been out today, so they took 9 fresh eggs, they thought they were so cool because of the colors. One of them even said I didn't even know they came in other colors then white. That made me laugh. Reminded me of the video going around with the kids that are given a walkman.

My incubator is full for another 10 days and all my broodys are sitting on eggs but my incubator will be available in 15 days, just saying.

Ya I was not too pleased with her setup at all. The websight does make it look like a big nice place but I was surprised by how small and smelly everything was :( Her silkies are beautifully bearded so I am happy with their quality but I question how well she cares for her birds because half of mine were weak and kept having vitamin deficiency problems. But they are all fine now probably because ive been supplementing their water with vitamins and started giving them scrambled eggs as a snack which they love! :) I dont want cynthia to worry about dixie because they are all healthy and happy now thank goodness but it was an emotional first week in a half with these guys and the breeder didnt sound very sympathetic when I told her more had died. I would ask her if she had anymore and she'd reply "sorry to hear, and yes I do" and thats it. I went back once and bought another which is still doing fine, but after the second one died I decided it was because she didnt care for her birds well and I didnt want to go back and take a chance of loosing anymore from her. Im just relieved that the rest of my babies are doing ok now. :)
hey, I know you love bearded silkies... check these out in St George! $40 for all 3

I did not get anything from Chase hatchery, but this little girl is just absolutely tiny! you know how small bantam cochins are? she was like half their size. Anyways, I got her from Cal Ranch, because she was getting picked on, and I felt bad for her :) (I'm a complete tender heart... in all honesty, I probably would have taken them all if I could lol!!!)
Oh ok, I just asked because when I went back to chase hatchery to hopefully get another black one, there was one black left but it was very small and was just as weak as the one I had that passed. It was crying non-stop with its eyes closed and was obviously dying yet she still tried to sell it to me. I hoped she'd just give it to me since it was just going to die anyway and at least she could have a shot with me. I tried to explain that it looked just like the one I had and that I didnt feel comfortable buying her if she was just going to die. But nope, she still wanted money for it so I got another more healthy looking baby. I got the wrong one and had to swap it just a few hours later and when I came back the baby was gone and when I asked where she was and wondered if she'd died, she replied that she sold it and hoped it would be ok. I got the feeling she lied about selling it, and it probably died and she just didnt want to admit I was right. And if she did sell it I thought that was terribly dishonest cause this baby was noticably on its way out :(
On a happier note, I looked at calranch a few times before getting my babies just curious what they had. The lady in charge of the chicks didnt know anything about them, it was halarious. I mentioned, "oh I see you dont have any silkies" and she said oh ya we do, they are just all mixed in" and pointed to one and said see thats a silkie, and I giggled and said no its not. Silkies should have dark skin, and five toes and she was all shocked and said "oh really? We were told anything with the furry legs was a silkie and I said "haha nope, theres a ton of chickens that have the furry legs, not just silkies". I loved looking at all the babies though, they were super cute. I saw a couple of those showgirl bald necked silkies and thought about getting a few but I prefer the regular fluffy ones so I didnt. I also wanted to make sure I got bearded silkies and the only place I found was chase hatchery. I dont recommend buying there but at the same time im glad I did because I am thankful for my pretty babies and think they are all going to be gorgeous :) I want to take individual pics of them soon :)

Exactely! It was very sad to see :( I also couldnt believe how many chicks she had in there and how smelly it was. She crammed all the day old babies in tiny boxes and when I came back a few days later I actually watched her take out 2 dead babies that were in with them and just tossed them into the trash with the cracked egg shells. She didnt seem bothered at all. I am shocked she's doing this right out of her tiny garage thats connected to her house. That cannot be healthy, no matter how clean she tried to keep it which I dont thin she was trying very hard. I am sure the health department woudl shut her down if they knew :s Those poor babies. I to thought her prices were kinda high but I wanted bearded silkies so I bought them anyway but ended up loosing half of them :(

I found the photo sundance..and your roos..I like the red roo the best..the frizzle one. Very nice. And man, that Serama is tiny!

Ugh. I for got to take out the turning tray and put in paper towels in my incubator. I remembered just now, but I already have a pip... Should I just leave them on the tray? They should be fine.... Right?!?
