Well RedIII, I have read the second part of the second paragraph more than a few times now. I believe I have read this prior as well, and that may have been from you as well. This is regarding the 'broken record' suggestion. I am not sure how to respond to this, or even if I should, you see 'supposing' I were to take your advice (and all the advice you have given me heretofore has been very good.) and employ this tactic 'round about my coop, how would one acknowledge receipt of said practice, and thank you, well in mixed company. And before anyone here jumps to conclusions, my official stand on the issue is that I am not doing this.

But then, I would do most anything for my birds… so, I am looking for a way to thank you for the tip, without anyone thinking I am employing same in my flock management system.

I'm not sure that this can be done. A paradox of sorts.

Anyway, Red, thank you so much for the kind tip. Hmmmm, I am sorry that I am (cough, cough) not at this time able to employ said tip in the management of predators, with specific regards to my home flock. You can be assured however, that 'every' precaution has and will be used to thwart said predators up to and including your tip.

If I were to execute your 'plan' I suppose I would start in the morning… but since I am not 'officially' onboard with this, it may be at sometime in the future.

As you can see, I enjoyed your post,

RJ
Is this in reference to 'human scents' around the coop? I've heard of sweeping the hair up after a hair cut and scattering the clippings around the area will help. If you are interested in trying 'other' methods you could always put a milk jug in the bathroom then take it out and pour it around. It would be a bit more discreet ;) Since you live in Cache Valley, another option is to purchase coyote urine from the coyote farm and sprinkle that around. My parents once did that to try and deter raccoons from eating all the corn in their garden.

I am thinking about selling this pretty lil partridge I got from Lisa because im pretty sure it's a roo :( I've been watching it for a while and its comb is starting to look bigger and rounder. Looking very nice though, and I think it'll make a good breeder. I am open to other colors I dont already have. State your price. I already have yellow, gold, black, blue, white, paint, splash and wheaten partridge. But I will take doubles on splash and paint. I'm still looking for different partridges, or any other color. I have a nice lil silkie rainbow going on lol

Great chicken day for me! Started by getting some SBEL OEs and HUGE Marans egg from McCasaDePollo Hatchery (thanks!). Lisa said that the Marans egg was a small one (poor thing!). I peeked at her little chicks she has in garage! Those things are awesome!!!!!!!!!

Next I worked on the coop. It is finally coming together, and even my wife said it looks cute. :)

Every time it rained, the sand would splash up and dirty the white fence, so we installed the gutter and this drainage bin (i just need to get a little big longer down spout).

On a side note, here are some pics of my flock (WL crosses, Cuckoo Maran, Wheaten Ameracauna, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Buff Orp, and Wheaten Ameracauna crosses), followed by some pullets and cockerels that are up for grabs:

The Flock

Here are the hens and cockerels that I have available.
The two tannish orange hens are Wheaten Ameracauna x RIR or GSL. Because the Wheaten Ameracauna's lay a beautiful blue egg, I'd imagine that these hens will lay a unique color when mixed with the brown/tan egg gene. They hatched at the end of April.
I am also getting rid of one of my Wheaten Ameracauna x Barred Rock cockerels. These were the chicks that were a beautiful light blue color. Both ended up being boys, so I am willing to give up one of them. (I am definitely keeping one!) They are so cool with their light grey barring! And their cheeks are soooo poofy! These also hatched in April.
Finally, I have a Buff Orp who is looking for a new home. He is gentle giant-- my second nicest bird. I really adore him, but now that I am keeping one of the smaller cockerels, he is looking for a new place. And get a hold of this--HE HASN'T CROWED! Not even once. He is an Easter chick, so that makes him four months.
These will all be free to BYCers, but I will soon put them on KSL if no one is interested.

Sundance gave me what looked like a girl to be a friend to my blind roo. Below are old pics of when I got "her" (the white fluffly feet one)...however "she" crowed this am.

I was starting to think I had a roo but with no crowing I kept pretending she was a she.... *sigh*

He has grown up to be all white, beautiful. Dad is from Ernie (a blue sizzle that Lisa has) and mom is a BCWP. My guy is much taller than than my blind roo as well as the 2 black maran pullets that are older than him. I know roo's aren't in demand but if there's someone out wanting him that would be awesome. I'm concerned once he starts looking at the ladies that my blind roo will get picked on (and he's terrified when his world is rocked). He crows as well but can't see to chase the ladies lol.

Remember Mr. Whitey has blue sizzle and top hat genes but I don't know how that plays out if someone wanted him for breeding. If not, any recommendations on what to do with him? I hate to put him on KSL to be eaten.

If you need a current pic, PM your phone # and I'll text one.

Thanks!!! *pls pls pls*

Your coop is looking good! Love it. Glad you liked the eggs! Annnnnnd I LOVE the treat you left for me! I have been envious of these bags, I am so excited to have one of my own thank you so much you are awesome Ace!

1000

Oh man. Ace, I need to send you a couple if the bags I have saved. I think I have an All Flock feed bag that would make an awesome purse. I can't believe how talented you are! Lisa, I'm jealous of your present, lol!

And the coop looks great! Good thinking on the splash guard.

Sundance, it's a good thing I started collecting eggs this last week. All of my Icelandics have stopped laying. Little boogers! I have 13 eggs, though. Hope you get home safe.

So I just want to cry. My silkie is Broody again. She did have 2 chicks over the summer, and when they were about 6 weeks old they just disappeared. Not sure what happened, but she started laying eggs again for about a week, and now for the last 3 days, shes been sitting. I just want to cry. I still have a Silkie momma in the grow out pen with 2 chicks that are about a month old now. And with it getting colder I really don't want hatch anymore chicks. I kicked her outside today on the other side of the fence. We just laid a full pallet of new sod down the side yard in their run about 2 weeks ago, and they haven't be allowed on it yet, so I figured maybe I should kick her out over there for the day. The others are super mad, but I really don't want them on it for another week so I know its really growing well before they start scratching the crap out of it. But she could careless, shes just pacing up and down the fence trying to get back to the nest box, and its really nice new thick lawn. I just hope my Bantam Cochin doesn't go broody next, she has just started laying again too, and she is officially done with baby.

Any thoughts on how to break her.

I use a big dog crate. No nest or bedding, just a perch, away from other chickens. I give extra treats and time with so they don't feel isolated. Should take a week or less. They have a few days readjusting back in the flock so this helps them going straight back to broody too.

Good luck!
