I always encourage DH to dump ashes from our fireplace into the run :D It's a hassle because it's all the way in the back of our yard, but he still does it, bless his heart.

My incubator hasn't shipped yet. Surely it will ship soon? Come on....... I have eggs waiting........ Of course, the longer I wait, the more eggs I can get, right??

No Diatomacious!   Does not work.  :p

7 dust is great!
Hmmmmmm, good to know. I consider myself lucky to have never dealt with pests, I'll keep this 7 dust in mind, though. I have some DE I use for garden pests, and it has worked well there for me. We don't have a fireplace, but the ashes are a smart idea.

Red hoping it ships soon!!

So i came across a webpage the other day. The person stated they are about 80% certain they can sex a chick, i believe they said 1 week old from the flight feathers. Longer = female, shorter = male. I lost one of my brahmas a few days ago and was hoping it wasnt my roo. Went out to the coop today and looked at my chicks wings. 4 of the chicks are almost 4 weeks and the other 5 are almost 3. All but one have wing feathers that are extending to the tail feathers. Is there any truth to this technique of sexing?

I believe that only works for certain breeds. There are some posts on BYC about it, if you try googling it. I'm hoping for you that you didn't lose your roo!

Roundy, feather sexing does work for some breeds, but I believe it's only accurate for a short period of time. Hopefully one of the gurus can step in here and correct me if I'm wrong. I don't remember how many days it is until the chick is too old for the method to be accurate.

Thanks, Gus!
