Utah!

Spoiled chickens! That sounds yummy enough to eat..lol.. I also store in metal cans. I can take my metal trash can down to Leland Mills and get a deal on filling it with lay mash.
You ad DE to your food? Hmm, good idea..how much?

I have 6 babies out now, and, one rockin and rollin... :)

thanks. making my own scratch is easy and it save me a lot of money too. i just add the de mainly to my scratch mix and do not have an exact amount i add but i add enough to give the seed a dusting, i would guess around 2 cups or so per 50lbs. by useing whole grain it will also keep for a lot longer, if stored right you could mix it up and use it all year i would say

Cynthia!!! Just saw the picks. And 6 live babies that is AWESOME! You will have to give us your guess on sexes....hoping girls girls girls :fl :fl Any more look like they are gonna pip?

Birdguy you are the guru of fun chicken ideas. Your chickens have it pretty darn good I think  I am glad you are on here because i am learning a TON of stuff from you and everybody else! My girls thank you! :clap

Edit--looks like 7 babies so far alive! woo hoo!!!!

Yes, 8 babies out, the other will be a while, and that will be all of them! 9 babies..they are so pretty. had to bring Scott in to see them, he even said, wow, what are those?! lol..The puffy cheeks and beard is starting to show up on the dry ones.
I was looking, and I honestly can't tell this early. They all have that wide nose thing going on like Ameraucanas and EE's do. They have the pea comb. You start telling the sex, if trying by comb, by the three row pea comb for roos. Won't be seeing any real comb for a while, they are all flat right now. lol..

if that is directed at me i want to say thank you so much! that is a huge complement and i appreciate that so much! oh another good thing i like about making my own scratch is i make it have higher protein by using grains that are higher in protein and i can control the ratios of what goes in it, so boss is better than oats so i use more boss, oats is better than milo so i use more oats than milo etc. i also found when i was buying the pre made stuff it was mostly corn and because it was chopped into such small pieces my girls would not eat the corn so by mixing my own i leave out the corn and save from buying it when it just goes to waste and plus the whole grain keeps longer. i can give the girls more scratch because its a lot higher in protein than normal scratch, they could actually live off it if i let them

I have 9 babies! All done, just watching them now. They have to be some of the strongest babies I've hatched in a long time.

birdman, boss, I forgot what that was? I've heard it mentioned a few times on here, but...?

Cynthia--Black Oil Sunflower Seeds. My girls love it :) The big bags are a lot so I got some from a friend with chickens that lives a few miles away and they ate it all up.

9 babies! That is all of them, right>? How cool is that, to have 100 percent>?Woosh! Would the wing feather thing work on these kind? If I remember right the one even row is boys, eneven double row girls? My grandpa used to swear by their wing feathers. But I have never even looked or thought about it until I saw Sphinx talking about it :) It is awful that it is so hard to know :idunno

Yes that was to you! You have lots of great ideas :) I think you are right about the corn, my girls seem to pick through it and those are the bits they do not like. Millets, YES!! Corn, not so much. My nieghbors brew their own beer (chocolate/coffee flavored stout dark beer)and had all these hops left over from their last brew and brought a big styrofoam cooler over full. So I spread them around and my girls ate so much I was worried they would get sick. But then I got that big double yolker three or four days after so we joke about it. They have dug a huge hole in the spot I poured the hops, it looks like a moon crater over there lol so I think it is safe to say that has been their favorite treat so far :) Chickens eat the craziest things! (These smelled like coffee/ beer and they were almost black from soaking , I really was not sure if I dared to feed it to them)

I am just amazed I still cannot believe you got so many! This is a good day! So glad to hear how strong they are. I will have to save that breeder's info, sounds like it was a really good place to get eggs :D :D :D

yep its black oil sunflower seeds. its not cheap but its so good for them and will make them have the best feathers you will ever see. the price has taken a dip now so if you can, now would be a good time to get them. they are on sale at cal ranch right now. i normally pay around $40 for a 50lb i think but they are so worth it. in the summer i even grew them
