Utah!

No Internet??. Isn't that some kind of blasphemy?

(shaking head in bafflement and walking away to consult the Great Chicken Internet bible)

Cynthia so sorry about your little chicks but way to be on knowing what you needed to do to save the rest! It scares me because I wouldn't have known to do that.

It's going to be hot here in the 90's they say and my little broodies are already struggling with the heat. We are still 14 days from hatch day I hope they make it.

corvidae, depending on the day, I call no internet a vacation, hehe

Lisa, I tried to look at the feathers on the wings of number one, but it seemed like there was more of a single row when I looked. It's hard to tell when compared with Angel's super long, obvious wings. I have had a few of my teens do the tackling thing when they were babies, and my Welsummer would even break up fights. She's still looking very girlish, though, so I think it's just more of an outgoing kind of thing.

I'll be excited to see what both of their colorations end up as!

6 are out..and that's it. Now to work on getting them strong. Two are up and about, a third is trying too. Giving the electrolytes every couple of hrs. I'm sure I will see stronger babies by morning. I am only worried about one out of the 6. We'll see.

4 blues, 2 blacks. They are going to be fine.

Whew..

Now, anyone interested in an older cockerel? I am now pretty sure that this beauty that I have been watching and wondering about is a boy. Will take pictures later..I was looking at the neck feathering..pointy, so between that, and the tail, I'm just waiting for the crow.

Cynthia, I'm so glad you got some babies through the night okay! Nice work! And more blues this time, yay!

Well, my boyfriend found a nice big cache of 16 eggs hidden in the yard this morning. I KNEW those girls were hiding eggs on me! Little brats. Most of the eggs belonged to my Marans, from what he described, which leaves me with two problems: 1) That BSL has got to be laying still, and I'll bet she's hiding her eggs somewhere else. 2) If most of my Marans's eggs were in that cache, then what in the world is she sitting on? I'll only be mad if it's nothing at all. Even one egg would be okay. Unless she found some of the BSL's eggs and has been sitting on them................... ???

For: Phoenix, hope her bum grows back too. It was like that all last winter and she did ok. I kept thinking if she would only moult then they would grow back. Maybe in the fall...the one feather still there? It looks ridiculous like that huh! poor girl. I have some more feather pulling going on, it makes me crazy, it is not the space, they have plenty now...I just cannot catch whoever it is in action. I need to send another girl packing I am afraid. It was great until about three weeks ago...i have found three girls missing lots of tail feathers and two have even bled. Grrrr

and
Nope the feather is gone. You sure it was HenRee who was doing the tail pulling? She has been an angel here.

I can't remember if I posted this but I got a bunch of older chicks that someone ordered and never picked up (or paid for). They were 3 wks old, missing all head feathers from rubbing on the top of brooder box and no one had tail feathers, I'm sure pecked off from boredom. These girls have never grown back. So I purchased some hen saddles and so far it's working great! I picked wild crazy patterns (vs the cute stuff) hoping it might confuse any predators for when they free range. Like today, isn't it BEAUTIFUL?!! Yeah!!!

Anyway, good luck with your hens. I remember seeing a pattern to make your own somewhere on the net (possibly even this board). But mine were only $5 w/free shipping and nice quality.

BTW, I am not getting notices of posts (even responding to my own) so I bookedmarked this forum but it's moving so fast I'm not catching all posts.

Cynthia, I saw a post in regards to you having a very recent hard hatch and tried to find your op, but couldn't. So wishing you, Red and all the others hatching the best of luck!

Oh oh oh... sorry one more thing. Between my girls gone wild (on egg laying) and Easter (no one bought) I had a TON of extra eggs. I think us and the dogs are egg'd out so I made a huge batch of scrambled eggs, added some green food dye, mixed with scratch after cooked, and smashed it all into a couple icre cream pails and put in the freezer. I figured this was cheaper than flock block for when the weather gets hot! So just a thought for those with extra eggs and need cheap chicken entertainment. Oh, I also sprayed the pails with cooking spray to help them slide out easy.

There's my book, the end. :)
