Utah!

Hi Elk! Thanks for your response earlier.... I have some of those saddles---they sure help with the backs AND they are adorable....but mine keep pulling tail feathers out! It is making me crazy, I got rid of a few troublemakers and there was peace....and some of the earlier picked on sweet ones are turning into the bossy mean ones. No wounds though so far. Hope they knock it off. The bitters spray works a little, but does not stop them completely. I need a hat to put over their tails/bums lol

I went to Peterson's country store this afternoon....and they had more chicks....and with over 2 dozen eggs in the oven, I needed to look at the babies like I need a hole in my head! They had RIRs, GLW, SLW and.....what I think are Columbian Wyandottes! You don't see those around here every day. I can't get the chicks off my mind. They're maybe 4 days old....and I'm thinking, just thinking, maybe I need to go back and get one.

My poor DH has reached the point where he just rolls his eyes at me. LOL
The weather was sooo nice today, all the chicks spent several hours outside. My teenagers will be ready to leave the house in about a week.

I'm going to miss having them in the house! My red frizzle cochin bantams are just 3 weeks so they will move into the bigger brooder, and then hopefully we'll have hatched babies on May 5th, so I'll have babies in the house for a while yet.

Back to the land of the internet! yay! My chicks that were at 21 days tonight.....well three are out flopping around, amazing! And two more pips. The other 5 5 no pips. Interesting because I put 5 in a carton upright and slanted, and 5 on the floor---all five in the carton pipped and three hatched. None on the floor pipped. Makes me wonder if that helps to be upright a bit. Going to keep trying that.....
Donna you were right when you said they might be early! I did not expect that at all. So far so good. I will post pics when they dry out---they are teeny little things! But pretty happy and spunky so far. Put the three in the brooder with my lonely girl, she was SOOOO happy. No fighting...just snuggling. And a quiet house now. Funny thing when I put the third one in, the older lonely girl (boy) was getting all protective over the first two when i put my hand in. Chest bumping my hand a bit. Standing in front of them to make sure I was not going to take them back out. It was kinda sweet

Congrats on the new babies, Lisa! They are ADORABLE, of course. Very interesting on the carton eggs vs laying down eggs. I've been thinking about this with my eggs and I think I'm going to hatch them propped up in a carton. Any extra help I can give them to hatch well on their own, I'll do it! :)

For sure! I really debated whether trying it....in nature they are flat....keep seeing it suggested so I thought why not. Mightbe coincidence, who knows. All 5 that are out are from the carton....the 5 on the floor we have 1 pip, not the other 4 yet. Will see what happens :)

i need to candle yours, I was going to Fri night and had to leave. Will do it tomorrow to make sure everybody stays that looks good and there are no stinkers at lockdown :)

I'm excited to hear what tomorrow's candling brings! I candled yesterday and had 2 infertile eggs for sure-out they went. Still had the one that looked fertile, nothing funky looking but no visible veins. I'm leaving that one for just a couple more days before I make a decision. Maybe I'll try to take a picture when I candle it and post it here and get some opinions.

I will let you know as soon as I go through the little guys! (GIRLS!) woops lol We are not going to jinx ya just yet ;)

I love seeing your babies, Lisa. Perfect! Glad your lonely chick isn't lonely anymore. I AM jealous that you and Donna didn't share the pictures of her chicks with the class though.

Cynthia, that chicken's face looks awfully girly to me. I think that's my vote too.

Ok, you all have made me very happy..along with more votes on the girl look when I put it on the gender thread too. I think it a beautiful bird. Lisa, if your black girls look like that, they are pretty! Lisa, those are darling babies. What breed are they again? I'm too tired to go back and check. I'm waiting up for our son to get home. Prom night.
Very disappointing things happened just about an hr. before he was to be picked up. No Pants! They didn't put pants in with his Tux! Dad had to hurry and go clear to Orem to get the pants. The thing that messed them up was, there was a stain on the vest that he first tried on. The guy took it back to get a new one, brought it back without the pants! Maybe our son learned something here..check things like that out when he gets home. But, DH and son had checked it out before they had the vest changed..they saw the pants..but the guy took the whole bag back there with him. Anyway, I'm upset I didn't get to see the girl. He went to pick her up, called, said he would come back after they ate. Well, the Prom is up at Sundance, didn't see him after dinner, I'm sure they were wanting to get up there, that's quite a drive. I'm wondering if they will drop him and his date off here so we can see her. Dad went to lay down and wait. I am glad I got pictures of him at least before he went.
And we got a new dog today. :)) A Dachshund.

Only two weeks left till Chickenstock!!! I have a couple of Candlewood Suites left if anyone wants to make a weekend getaway out of coming up!! PM me for details..

Aw Sphinx I will have to do that. They are in my pm box :) So fun to see all the different chicks going on in this thread. I am seeing 3 single combs and 2 rose combs so far so I am hoping the people buying are ok with those. If not, more chickies for me :p I actually like the singles better but if people wanted to show them or something it might not work. Donna said she has had single combs pop up once in awhile on a roo, so I wonder if that means they are for sure boys or if they can still be girls. Donna if you are on here, there is a question for ya ;) They sure are friendly little chickies I think they have decided I am 'mom'.

So the weird-o torpedo-ish brown-ish with a whit-is spot egg I got two days ago was definitely from the ShirLee. She laid another one today, a little bigger, but skinny again, light brown, like the other brown egg layers out there. Poophead. No olive egg, not even dark brown..... Still love my beautiful girl, but I am really surprised, she laid the one thing I never thought of and tricked me. So we will see what her sis does in the next week or so. I thought from the two I should get one olive at least.....hoping :) My quest for a blue egg might turn into a quest for an "anything but tan" egg lol! I do have to say that them being unpredictable makes it more fun though.

Edit---hey Cynthia I just saw your pics after I typed this up! What a handsome devil you have there! woo hoo! Glad he got his brithces hehe! You are up worrying, with me---my daughter is at her friends in their hot tub. I talked to the mom and she said no boys were there whew! But she better be home in 17 minutes or I will have to go pull her outta there. I need some sleep! And a new dog...for the love of Pete! Pretty colors for a dachsund, never seen that white on them, I like it a lot!
