Utah!

Only two weeks left till Chickenstock!!! I have a couple of Candlewood Suites left if anyone wants to make a weekend getaway out of coming up!!  PM me for details..

Birdguy you are a marketing guru. You are hired. You are going to need a long rest after that is over! Are you selling any chickens? Don't you have icelandics?

Lisa--

Cute! I hope the rest all hatch for you--I am very intrigued that the carton chicks all hatched before the others--might try that on the ones I have going in lockdown this week. As for the straight comb, yes, those could be girls. Or they could be boys. A lot of them that look like straight comb when they are hatched turn out to be perfect little rose combs as they get older. In fact, even several weeks in, it is hard to determine (at least for me) if they will have a straight comb or not. I've only actually had one Roo (and no hens) come up with a straight comb so far, and he got culled before he could breed. Still, those recessive genes can pop up at seeming random times, so one never knows!

I would think most of your chicks should be out by tomorrow evening, but I had one in the last batch that hatched on day 22--the only one delayed like that and I had to help it out (stopped zip after 1/3 of the way). Seems perfectly fine now--no leg problems or anything. I usually give up the ghost at the end of day 22, though. I'm going to light incense now to the Great Chicken to let all your other eggs hatch!

Aw Sphinx I will have to do that. They are in my pm box

So fun to see all the different chicks going on in this thread. I am seeing 3 single combs and 2 rose combs so far so I am hoping the people buying are ok with those. If not, more chickies for me

I actually like the singles better but if people wanted to show them or something it might not work. Donna said she has had single combs pop up once in awhile on a roo, so I wonder if that means they are for sure boys or if they can still be girls. Donna if you are on here, there is a question for ya

They sure are friendly little chickies I think they have decided I am 'mom'.
So the weird-o torpedo-ish brown-ish with a whit-is spot egg I got two days ago was definitely from the ShirLee. She laid another one today, a little bigger, but skinny again, light brown, like the other brown egg layers out there. Poophead. No olive egg, not even dark brown..... Still love my beautiful girl, but I am really surprised, she laid the one thing I never thought of and tricked me. So we will see what her sis does in the next week or so. I thought from the two I should get one olive at least.....hoping

My quest for a blue egg might turn into a quest for an "anything but tan" egg lol! I do have to say that them being unpredictable makes it more fun though.
Edit---hey Cynthia I just saw your pics after I typed this up! What a handsome devil you have there! woo hoo! Glad he got his brithces hehe! You are up worrying, with me---my daughter is at her friends in their hot tub. I talked to the mom and she said no boys were there whew! But she better be home in 17 minutes or I will have to go pull her outta there. I need some sleep! And a new dog...for the love of Pete! Pretty colors for a dachsund, never seen that white on them, I like it a lot!

Two things...."poophead" ~ which I completely agree she should be called.. and..."for the love of Pete"!

I haven't heard that in a while, my mom use to say, "oh for Petes' sake". We were brought up in the South, where did you come from? lol.. Cutie.

And yes, at least he had his brothers..but, would you believe I never got to see his date? That uurks me to this min! Arrgghh! We love Kimberly. We have been waiting to see her in her dress, and her hair all done up, but no, the kid driving said, we got pictures at the park, let's head up. My son said even pushed it..saying, my parents want pictures..nope. We're going the kid says. What? I didn't let on to Austin how upset I was, he had a good time. Oh, and he did pay for pictures for the Promenade.. but someone had their dad come and take pictures with a nice camera at the park. At least they won't cost him anything. And I will get to see her in a picture. :(

Hey UTs,
i just went to Phoenix Tears Nursery in Logan to get some goji berry bushes to plant outside the coop for the chickens and the humans to eat. The chickens love the leaves and I'm sure they will go crazy when the berries come out! Doug is an awesome guy, and he has a beautiful flock of Americaunas that are very well cared for. He sells chicks and plants, has a pond full of trout, and it's fun just to be in such abeautiful place. What an inspiration! If you get the opportunity, go visit his farm.

Janel, thanks for that info! I had never even heard of this place, will go check it out.

Cynthia---Just raised in good ole' Idaho. "For the love of Pete", "oh for Pete's sake"," go tell Pete and see if he cares" are all things I heard growing up in my family. My husband says oh for the love of Pete probably ten times a day so it just seems like table talk haha :)

Speaking of rural talk---your son needs a "thump on the noggin" for depriving you of pictures. But it is great that he had fun....kids really remember those things! Glad he returned home safe and sound.

One of my babies died in the brooder last night. They were all piled on top this morning and the poor one on the bottom was flatter than a pancake. Poor baby. I debated putting that last one in last night vs. in the incubator all night long. My bad I should have waited. It was not completely out of its deep sleep yet, still pretty groggy. The others are doing great though :)

What is the address and are they open on Sunday?

Janel, you are the second person to recommend him and his goji berry plants. I'm very tempted.

Lisa, sorry that your quest for a blue egger continues. I'm sure your lav americauna will be a blue egg layer. I'm sorry you lost one of your babies, how heartbreaking.

I've only hatched out 5 BLRW. One had a single comb, the rest rose. The single comb was the boy I had to help.

Cynthia, it sounds like your son really tried to get back to your house to show his girl off. It's tough when you've got a big group like that, and he pushed about as far as he could go without being too pushy.

Shinx, you are exactly right. He really did try, and he didn't want to cause problems. So, not my dance, his group, and they did have that long drive. I tell myself that better they got there safe by driving slower than driving fast up that canyon to get there as soon as they could. He apologized as soon as he got into the house. Not his fault.

Can you guys believe this weather? It's beautiful! Is spring really here..do you think? Maybe? We'll see next week. Actually, it says we are in for some rain, but hey..April showers bring what? Flowers! Makes me smile. I needed that thought. lol..

I need to post some baby pictures. My latest little miracle babies are doing great. I got six healthy babies out of 12 that went into lock down, and that was with me pulling them out of goop. So I'm not complaining. Boy they were crispy critters for a while after being in that stuff. I've had to wipe them down a few times, and I still don't think they are as fluffy as they could be. 4 Pretty blue babies and two blacks.

Everyone on the Gender page is telling me "Pullet" about my black EE! Guess she's sticking around for a while longer. I can't wait for that egg, because if she is an Ameraucana and not an EE, I will get a blue egg, and not the blue/green egg. I may have not noticed if it was an EE or an Ameraucana egg she came from, Sonew sent me both. All I know, she sure is pretty. Sweet girl too.

Lisa, looking at that black girl outside. Will get a picture of that one for you..I'm not quite sure. The nasal area is wider than I thought it was, but the rest of the bird says girl. Especially when she was younger, that's why I kept her of course. Going to be pretty.

Cynthia--ok so your boy wont be getting a thump on the noggin :D i do understand what groups are like, you do not want to be the dorky one saying "i gotta go see my mama!" hehe.

Waiting for pics. Love the baby pics :)

Sphinx have you rehomed your lav roo or are you keeping him? Just curious. I think i am going to clear some boys out over the next week or so. It is hard, you kind of attached ya know?!

I picked up Phoenix' polish yesterday. Pretty good hairdo on that one! Mixed right into the flock no prob. I am thinking maybe boy....but the jury is out so it is worth a try. Love the polish. I thought about this last night and I have a plan....next year when I do the re-adjusting to my flock i think i want to go for 1/3 polish with a silkie or two thrown in there for the looks and pet aspect not the egg aspect, 1/3 brown good egg layers for the eggs for eating , 1/3 colored egg layers for the fun of the colors. There. Got it figured out. Finally. For today :p

So my other eggs are not doing much. I, being the oh so impatient one, look in the pipped one, and NO it is not alive. and it was not ready at all when it died.... AND there is waaaaay too big of a yolk sack in there, and it is Dark Green like forest green....ewwww not looking too good. Anybody know what that is about? I saw a dark yellow yolk sack before but not dark sticky green like this. I wonder about those others---going to keep waiting. No chirps. No pips.
