I hatched some of these. They are the funnest little baby ever! They were so rolly poly at first. I kept having to set them up straight, because I would hear one of them screaming..I come in to see it on it's back with the legs flaying. I turn it over, and it's making that cute sound they make again. I only had three eggs, all three hatched, and they went back to the guy that gave them to me to hatch. It was a fun experience. Loved their little sounds.![]()

Okay, so..........Birdguy, how much are you planning on asking for for Icelandics? Because apparently I need to get a couple for birdman, hehehehe. Brad, you just like to watch me squirm, don't ya?
And, look what I got for my boyfriend!
I picked up a pair of Broad Breasted Bronze poults at IFA while I was out getting vitamins for my teenagers. The boyfriend's been wanting some for a while, but hasn't been able to pick any up when Cal Ranch gets in their shipments because he's always working. He's sick today, so I'm excited to surprise him.
I have decided that poults are extremely cuteThey're quite different from chickens, too. These ones cry very loudly whenever I walk away from the brooder. Once I show up and talk to them, they settle right down. I had one of them falling asleep on my hand, head hanging against my thumb and all. Tried to get a picture, but it woke up and gave the camera a stinkeye.![]()
I have really enjoyed the icelandics.. They are better foragers, more consistent layers all winter and are good mothers... just waiting for one to go broody!!!
Red... the icelandics are $7 each... only problem with them is you can't get just one.. they are worse than pringles!! they are like a box of chocolates.. everyone is different!!! I have crests, feathered legs and every kind of comb you can imagine!! Always fun to see what you get and then what they turn out like!!
Cream Legbars!
Elk,that was me with the broody! (figured I'd make it easier for you to spot this post) I haven't tried to move her yet because there's still some debate going on about if it's worth a try or not, but we did find out yesterday that she's sitting on 14+ eggs. I'm 90% sure that the other hen isn't laying any more eggs in that spot, either. It's kind of funny how they trade eggs around like that. Today is day 10, to the best of my knowledge......Almost halfway there!!![]()
