Utah!

Here r the mystery eggs, but now I'm pretty confident they are the delawares, because they were 2 today, but they're darker than I expected... Lisa, what color are urs? From top to bottom... orpington egg, 2 mystery eggs, leghorn EE egg...

The one by the EE egg looks about like my Delaware egg. It is tannish pinkish....a lot of bloom. I have to wonder if the other tan one might be a beginning marans egg, only because of the shape. All of mine have a very uniform shape without a very pointy or narrower end like that one.....it just looks like it could be one of my marans eggs. They vary a lot in color from day to day. Let us know what you find out! Your Delawares are definitely past their due date :) It is awesome you are getting more eggs!

I think I got an EE/leghorn egg today, it was greenish blue, light, minty, she was in the nest for a couple of hours then there it was! I am 99 percent sure she did it. Will watch her close.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RED! :yiipchick

Cynthia, I have to admit this...you and your Miss Piggy have had me reading Leghorn reviews ALL AFTERNOON and I was even on Murray and Ideal's sites tempting myself to order a few leghorn chicks for Spring! Luckily someone came to my door and interrupted my impulsive thinking...

leghorns can be a little crazy but the two i have are super sweet, they like to fly to my shoulder and talk softly into my ear. and they are about as good of a layer that you can get and they have a extremely good feed to egg ratio so you get a lot more bang for your buck. very good smart birds but yeah they can be a little wild and do what they want. i had 4 but found a home for 2 of them because 4 leghorns is too much for me. one that i found a new home for went broody a lot.

happy birthday red!

LOL..I love them. I have a pullet that should start in a couple of months. I kept one of those, and an Australorp when I got some egg layers from Ideal..then Avaris got some..where is she anyway? I am wondering what she is thinking about her chicks, starting to look like chickens. And the voice change. :) I'm not sure I got her name right. :/

Lisa, your egg from the EE mix, sounds like the same color as mine. I like it. I have a pretty mint green, and a pretty blue. Two really dark brown eggs..and of course Miss Piggy's big white egg.

Oh, if you go to Ideal, they have two different kind of white leghorn chickens. Alright, don't ask me the different names, but, what I can tell you that will help you know which to get, if you do, is the one that claims they don't go through bad moults. It's in the description of them. I'll just have to be more of an enabler tomorrow, and show you how pretty she is right now. She may even be ready by next month to lay, because more often than not, they start around 16 or 17 weeks to lay.

Haha thanks

That was kind of naughty of me to mention, wasn't it?

Lisa, I love Leghorns! The white one I had earlier this year was a character. Only chicken I've ever had that figured out how to open her box halfway in an attempt to get out. The Exchequer I have now is smart, too. A bit flighty, but such a good girl. I love how chatty she is. I still don't know for sure who is laying the pretty little white eggs, but I think it may be her. Chelsea is a bit of a wanderer, so I'll need to check the bushes thoroughly when I have more time in the daylight. So, did I help enable you at all?

Whittni, your chickens look quite content. I'm with Sphinx - most of mine pout and sit in the run or under a bush when there's inclement weather. I only have a few that like to venture out, rain or shine. My Leghorn is one of them............

I had to tackle my wild turkey tonight to throw her in the run. I didn't want a popcicle in the morning, heh.

And......My BF got me a new laptop for Christmas!! EEEEEE! I'm so excited! He got it for a good deal at a pawn shop

Now if he would just go spend some money on himself and get his toothache fixed. I'ma smack him if he don't do it soon.

Red Happy Birthday. ho[e you have a very nice day. Some time we'll have to get together with your BF and play cards. Just went out to do my nightly check and it was snowing really hard. Everyone is Cluckingham Palace was very snug. They love to sit and look out the windows and when I go in with my polkadotted barn boots on they love to pect the dots, If I wear sandals they peck my red toenail. They are so cute.

Fun to hear more happy leghorn stories. I am glad you all are sharing your thoughts on them....I had always thought nah...white eggs I had seen, so the novelty of the colored ones has had me intrigued when I started the whole chicken thing. But now, you know, trying a little of this and that, they seem more interesting to me. My neighbor told me the horror stories initially, she had 20 and they fought, one tore the back off of another, nasty business. Mostly I am scared I will get a mean one. But so many on here say flighty but not mean. I can do flighty! I have a few of those! But Bella, my EE leghorn mix is flighty but still so sweet. Just worried around people. I had looked at California white, California gray, and the Pearl white at McMurray. I do not think I want a brown, and lots of people say the black are sweet, but not as good of a layer. So we will see :) Will have to browse some more later, maybe I will add a couple on to my chick order I had put in, they said I could modify it. I am being naughty ordering chicks, but I have never done it before so I am kind of excited to have a box of chicks arrive all at once instead of hatching batch after batch and running a brooder for so many months to get the few breeds I am still wanting. I am not so patient.

Red this is great news about the laptop! yay! Now when you have time, you MUST post the silly turkey doing the face plant in the feed bin. That is a must see.
It is like, every day, 'must we REALLY do this again'? Too funny.

Cynthia, I think it is Aravis? Where DID she go? I would love to see those SF and how they are growing up. Pretty!

I think it snowed out there. Sundance, dont' think Scott and I are going to head for Orem today. We can bring him another time. It is still .. snowing! I just heard a snow plow go by..and on our street. We just don't want to get on that freeway today. If yous see this, and you still plan on going..be careful!

Lisa, the brown leghorns are very pretty. I had one. They don't lay every day like your whites though. And, I've heard horror stories on leghorns, but only from people that have large flocks of them. They love their food. I am now going on my 4th with my pullet out there. She already comes around me when I'm putting food out. I just don't force them to be held. Miss Piggy squats for me if I reach out to her now when I am down and she has come around. I had to clip her wings when I first got her, and I'm sure I will clip this other girls wings when she decides to investigate the top of the apple trees. Or ends up over the fence in our neighbors yard. Had to clip my blue girl..that I don't know what to call, because she is not an EE! Man, she lays pretty dark brown eggs! Anyway, she was up on our gate a couple of weeks ago. Already clipped the EE mixes' wings, she flew into the dog area when Toby was alive. He was a good boy..I think. I heard a lot of commotion, went out, he came running to me, and I watched him, he was looking back at the kennel and dog house area..thought a hawk had the bird, but the EE mix was scratching wildly in the corner of the kennel trying to get out..I leave the kennel door open. So, clipped her wings. Always fixes the flighty problem.

So, I did it. I got me another Golden. And it's a girl! I haven't had a girl dog in a long time, never in a Golden. She is unique. She has white paws. White on her chest, and down her nose. I am going be asked and asked, oh, what is that mix? And when I say, she is pure, they won't believe me. You really don't see it often, but it can happen. She was the only one with the white on her in the litter. What a sweetheart. Of course, she's a Golden! ;)
I kept calling her Little Miss..or Missy..or Little girl. So, it's mostly Missy, guess that's her name. She is going to be big. Took her out in the snow today. She loved it once she got used to it. They are water dogs. Even my little Brody liked playing in it, but my Schnoodle..what a brat dog. lol..Grumpy..only 6 years old, but grumpy with the other dogs.

How much snow did you guys get? We are still getting it!

The coop run is covered Missy got her face in it right away.

Hey get back here, I'm not done playing yet. :) Brody and Missy, Brody is in the snow!

I just put two small pullets out there in the end run yesterday The EE mix and Miss Piggy are standing up against the
can't see them..they are behind the wall, where's it's warm. end of the run for them, next to the start of the other one.

There's Grumpy..look at those ears back, like he's saying Missy wants to play in the deep, Brody says no way,
leave me alone! Yep, he wants in. I already did that. :)

Send some snow pictures you guys. Would love to see how Logan got. And just North of us!
