My turkeys always do well in the cold as long as they get plenty of food. In fact, more often than not they prefer to be out and about instead of staying in their house. I just let them do what they want to do. As for chicks in the winter,...............I've got them! My husband wired one of our out buildings so I have four big brooder boxes setup with two lamps each in case one fizzles out. My oldest babies are three weeks old now and almost ready to go to a "big baby" box to make room for the next newbies. So, if anybody wants to take the plunge and get an early start on chicks, I'm hatching black copper marans. My goal is to have plenty of started pullets come spring. I wish I had cameras in my coops, however, so I can gather all the eggs before they get overly chilled or even FREEZE in this insane cold!
