Hello everybody. New to the boards and stumbled on to this post from Utah. I am up north hear in Plain City and have a question. Does anybody know of any local (ogden area) mills that sell mash in smaller quantities. Don't want to have to buy a lot at one time, but from what I have read you can get the mash for about half the price of pellets or crumbles. Any help would be much appreciated.

I called Ifa in Ogden this morning and they've had their baby chicks in since last week!!

They get their bantam breeds in on Thursdays and standard sizes in on Fridays

I can't wait to go pick out my new babies!!

i think cal ranch is going to start chicks on march 1st?

I asked our guy here in Spanish Fork's Cal Ranch, he said the last week of this month they will have chicks. wow.

Lisa, the MRI was loud. lol. That's how they go. I won't know results until April probably. That's when I have my next appt. with my neuro. Plus I still have to have the nerve test he ordered for my neck area. I guess if there was something really terrible going on they would call. I am guessing just old bones on top of the Osteo. I don't want to have surgery unless it's a real big deal going on in there. The pain is a lot worse than it used to be, so we are looking because of what is going on in my neck. Oh well. This getting old is as much fun as the tilt of whirl is for me at this this age. NOT! ( I used to love that thing.)

So, no one wants a beautiful little cockeral. I am thinking I have three girls, and two boys. They are getting more puffy in the faces, except the lightest one, but I really like her anyway. Fuzzy feet.

I only have 3 barred rock eggs left! I put them in with my EE's. They look good so far. And will not candle Red's or the other Olive eggs until day 7. Well, maybe day 5.

As much as I don't like using straw, I finally broke down and got some. The chickens love it. They aren't walking in muck any more, and neither am I. Now, if they just won't eat the straw. I see that with them kicking it up, there are small pieces in it there. I will have to put the food under the hutch where I didn't put any straw. I worry too much..straw, chickens, kind of goes together. I do know that I will be spraying them for buggys now. Probably come the end of March when hopefully there won't be so much snow melting. Bugs, on chickens. From the straw. Go figure. I have to wonder how much the old timers worry about these things.

Cynthia glad the MRI is over for you.

It was a lonnnng night last night. I have my babies. 8 hatched but one isn't going to make it. I have figured out what is going on though. This new incubator's temperature is to low and combined with the 40-50 % the instructions say it is to much. It is hard to learn that on expensive eggs.

The only batch I did well on was when I kept the humidity down and didn't follow the instructions. I followed Cynthia's instead. I should have done that again. I'm worn out with hatching for awhile. (like until next week

) I'm grateful to at least have gotten 7 healthy ones. I'm praying for the 8th. I will post pictures soon.

I took a fun picture yesterday I thought I would post. It is my Silkie mama and the little runt lavender Ameraucana. The Silkie mom is showing her how to dust bath. She is doing really well and is growing. So that is good.

I did the same thing last week. The run was such a mess! The chickens all live it. I have to admit I didn't even think about the bugs.

This brings up a few questions: what do you use to treat for bugs? I have been using DE in the coop and run. Is that sufficient? Second question, what kind of worming treatment/schedule do you use? They got pumpkin in the fall, but I doubt that is enough...?

I posted a few weeks ago that DH was recruited for a job...he interviewed yesterday and was told to expect an offer today or Monday. My good news for the day We are still processing and have been really mellow considering the news. We are going to start car shopping today as DH's current car is a company car. That's as far as we can take it right now, plan ahead...

I had an old timer told me to use hay. The chickens can eat it as it has the green flaky leaves and when put in brooders it keeps chicks from getting splayed legs. My chickens love it. I also put it in the nest boxes instead of shavings. Works really good for all kinds of things.
