Utah!

My old hen Sparkles has started laying again. She is around 4 years old.
She has always given 2-3 a week. Last week she gave 5 eggs.
I am not sure what to think she has never given that many eggs.

So I am curious and please forgive me if this has already been talked about ( i couldn't find anything looking through the post but a 1000 + pages is a lot to look at

) Does anyone locally in Utah raise Buckeyes? Have been looking at getting some to raise and was just curious how they do with our winters and summers. And if anybody does raise them locally would you be willing to sell some? Either fertile eggs or chicks doesn't matter much to me. Thanks!

Welcome swift! Hope someone can help you. Not sure I've seen anyone here say anything about the buckeye.

Hi aravis! Did you see that I am giving up my Swedish Flower Hen? I think you got the sweet one. I think Donna will be great with her. She can have more chickens too.

Hey, my Australorp squat for me yesterday, so if I remember, you got one of those. Is she getting real red in the face? Squatting? You should be getting an egg from her soon. The leghorn many start laying as she is starting to get more red. He comb will get more red..can't remember if you got a leghorn? Anyway, all of yours should be getting close. By next month for sure! If you have a chance post some pictures. I would love to see a picture of the blue Swedish Flower. Hope they are doing well in this snow!

Bird man I planted lemon balm last summer. I was always walking by and picking it to smell. It's a favorite. I'm hoping it will come back again this year. Do you know if it is a perennial? Just bought all of my seeds to get started indoors for planting my garden. I'm trying out some fun heirloom seeds this year. I'm getting pretty excited to see green coming up again in all the dirt!

I agree with Cynthia you have been under a ton of stress and it is manifesting itself through your health. So sorry about the BF problems again. You have really been put through the wringer as they would say.

Take care of yourself now it is important for your future well being. Like when we can hear those wedding bells ring! Thanks for being willing to send me eggs I'm really the only lame-o on here that is only able to have banty's. I just have to live vicariously though you guys that have the bigs girls and boys! Sigh.

Sundance do you think you would have time to meet on your way through? Either going or coming back. I'd love to have a meet up with you.

I hope to have time to stop by, I am delivering a cat to St George so I will be stopping

Cynthia thanks for the hello.

Sundance thanks for the link. I had actually seen that ad just this morning and was planning on giving her a call in the next day or two. Just figured I would ask here and see what kind of answer I got. Thanks again.

*Warning* PITY PARTY *Warning*

I am pouting because it looks like one of my 9 wk OE girls is a cockerel, which would mean of my last hatch 9 out of 12 were roos
sad.png

AND all 3 of the FBCMs chicks I bought are looking like boys now too! It is impossible to learn how to determine gender if I only ever have roos.
I have 8 laying hens in my #1 coop and I'm only getting 1 egg every other day.
I am getting really discouraged. I have chickens & incubators everywhere -and I'm not getting any closer to having even enough eggs for my family.

It stopped being fun when they are always roos, I can't keep roos

Okay, I'm done. Pity party over. Thanks for letting me rant.

Hi everyone, it's been a looong while. Did ya miss me? (Nah, didn't think so. ha ha) Been insanely busy with work and the farm and the family, but all my chickens are well and have weathered through winter just fine (so far). I'm starting my search for eggs to hatch. Definitely going to hatch bantam mille fleur/calico Cochins, bantam wheaten Ameraucanas (if I can even find eggs) and some other breeds, just for fun. Bantams, though. Auntie Hattie gets what she wants first.

The 2 Bantam Ameraucana chicks Hattie gave me late last fall ended up both being girls. :) The two calico chicks I got from her sister ended up being one girl, one boy. Their coloring is beautiful (I think they came from QCU Poultry). And of course, there is the rest of my bunch....

Here comes the fun part for the general population of this forum...I'm looking to sell some of my flock. I know a couple of you were interested in my blue wheaten Ameraucana (LF) pullet, Hedwig...she's going to be turning 1 year old shortly. She doesn't lay blue eggs, but a pretty green-pastel teal.
I have a Gold laced and a Silver laced wyandotte, both girls will be a year old next month. They'll gather at your feet but aren't social with people other than that.
2 red bantam cochins, one is frizzle. They love to follow me all over, and will tolerate petting. Will be 1 year the beginning of April.
All these girls are $5 each to any BYCer.
The bantam calico cockerel I have needs to find a new home too. His flight feathers have never tucked in nicely so I won't use him for breeding. He's FREE.
My very handsome Crele Wyandotte bantam cockerel (will be a "rooster" on May 5th) Clay needs a new home. I won't be breeding the bantam wyandottes this year. He is $10 to anyone on BYC.
Most of them have pictures in my album on here, but I can get more pics if you want them. I'll post some pictures of the calico cochin rooster in the next day or so as well.
