Utah!

Sundance, did you get that cast of your baby? How is that leg looking? I hope it is well as the vet thought it would be.

I have 8 EE's hatched. 7 are doing well. Not sure if one is going to make it. The most strange thing. When I candled to go into lock down, this egg had NO air sac to speak of. I could see blood vessels and clots all through the bottom. I could see the chick moving around in there, a lot! I kept turning the egg in different positions to see the air sac. None! I just went ahead, put it in lock down because I knew it had no air sac. I put a question mark on it.

Well, I decide last night that I would pip it, since so many had already hatched, and there were pips everywhere. When I did, all of this bloody gooy thick stuff was right there, where the air sac should have been, and it started oozing out..sorry, pretty yucky I know. But I've never had this..anyone else?
I went ahead and stated removing more shell from the bottom part. I thought I could hear chirping coming from in there..I thought no way, this chick is dead. How could it possibly chirp in all of this thick stuff? I went to move more shell, and the shell just crumbled in my hand. I thought, oh well, I'll just remove the chick from it all, wanted to see what I was missing out on, because there is a certain color of EE I was looking forward too. I could hear chirping..for sure! I hurried and lifted the neck out of the thick goop. It started to breath, that not so good of breaths. I thought I would just put it in the bator to absorb the yolk. It's still alive. It's moved a bit every time I checked it, but it moved more when I picked it up to clean it a bit. I put a wet paper towel on it's bottom so the yolk would stay moist enough to absorb.
I just went and checked it again. That baby is moving and chirping, and most of the yolk is absorbed! It hasn't opened it's eyes on it's own, but it is moving around. I will now start some electrolytes and hope this baby makes it, and that it is a girl.

Jacque did get his cast off yesterday. He now has a soft splint that is just a little support. He is limping a bit today but that is expected as with the splint he is feeling the pressure of his weight on his leg more than the cast. While we were in Orem we recieved a phone call from the Huntsman cancer institute. Ed close friend had become ill on Saturday. Ed drove him to the hospital and he was transferred to the Huntsman Cancer institute The cancer institute said he was dying and we needed to come as he had no family here. We hurried and went there. He died about 2 hours after we arrived. That was such a shock as we had no idea he was sick. he had a grapefruit size tumor on his liver and he went into organ failure and died. We now are planning his funeral because all his family lives in Africa and he has no way to be buried other than us. I am having a really bad day and so is ed

Oh Sundance. No words can express the huge amount of condolences for a person in grief that you have come to know as a friend. All I can say is, I'm so sorry! I wish I were there to give you a hug. So so sorry. Prayers and thoughts going your way.

Argh! My Mille Fleur Leghorn egg has pipped sometime during the night-- it's not supposed to start until tomorrow evening and I somehow managed to let the water nearly dry up, so the humidity wasn't even near where it was supposed to be! I've filled up the humidifier again, so I'm hoping the little one doesn't get stuck in there. :( The Welsummer and Swedish Flower eggs haven't pipped yet. I swear this Sportsman hatches eggs a little early!

Never really had a problem with putting a new girl in there, as long as they are about the same size. Contrary to the general methods, I just put the new one in and keep an eye on them. There's usually some bitching for a couple of days as they settle the pecking order, but they settle soon enough. Our newest is Dandelion, the Swedish Flower. She got crabbed at for about a day, the suddenly was BFF with the Andalusian. Now they both snuggle down with Gimpy the Footless every night in the bedding and no one gets worked up at each other. I've never had them actually attack a new girl--just puff up and squawk for a while. Of course, my coop does have an attic, which gives the new ones somewhere to hang out if the other girls get too snotty.

The young 'uns I do keep separate. The big girls will take them down in a heartbeat.

I should be having Legbars in a couple of weeks here, assuming the hatch goes well. I think I have about 20 Legbar eggs in the incubator and I need to get 7 girls or so. Have to see what actually hatches, though.
thanks for the info everyone! yeah corvidae let me know if you have any legbar pullets for sale. that would be perfect timeing. depending on how much they would be i may even buy two if you have them, one for me and one for my sister that has land :)

Only 5 of the Marans made it to lockdown and only these 2 hatched :( including these I would've had 1 blue, 2 black, & 2 splash out of the 5eggs. The black one has beautiful leg feathering like Michelle's babies. The blue's is a bit lighter.

Here are my pictures of my EE's..cyndi, you have Welsummers too right? I am really wanting another one. I have some eggs ordered for the Easter Hatch A Long.

Here's my little crispy baby fighting for it's life. It's still chirping and moving around.

Oh man! I am hoppin' mad! Well, as mad as I get anyway :)

700

This is what I got.......
1000

What do you guys think???? I think there is more dishonesty among the "blue egg sellers" than anywhere. I have yet to get an egg that looks like the picture, and most of the time they are outright green, no if's and or BUTTS about it. People need to be a little more honest about the egg color. I paid way too much this time, and they were not packaged so great either, all sweaty and wet and gross. Could not breathe at all, the plastic was sealed tight all the way around, it just irks me (a little). I mean seriously, look at the difference in the pictures. ?? Look at the blue on the postal wrap and the rings on the notebook, then look at the green sitting on the left....I can't see one egg in the sellers pic that matches these eggs at all.....they are grayish light greenish.

So I will not be keeping these chicks, will have to KSL them as green egg layers, because honestly I would not ever tell anybody they came from blue eggs. I seriously wonder if any will even hatch, they were so wet....will have to candle later and see what is going on inside.

Ewwwww it irks me. So blujems, you will not be wanting these. Nor me. Nor anybody looking for blue egg layers, dang it!

I can't believe that anyone would be ok about that. Well I can, there are so many people that don't really care, as long as they get their money. I am sorry. Have you sent them an email yet?
