Utah!

Oh man! That is what I was afraid of. I have some 7 week old chicks that just went into the coop last week when the weather was nice. It took this bad turn and I was considering running a heat lamp out to them.

Apparently the equation is: Heat Lamp + Extension Chord + 70 mph Wind = Fire!

Mine are doing fine though!

Blujems, That is awful all three were boys. I thought at least one was a girl. They just kept changing lol! I think my Sparkles EE, NOW is a girl. All that chest bumping had me worried, my 2 GSL's and the sparkles EE, and my NN---all fighting. I kept thinking I would be the only person on the planet with sex linked birds that were the wrong gender. They have settled down now, and none of them have gotten red, just a little pink that has stayed that way, by this age they should be really red if boys so I am much more hopeful. I have never seen females chest bump like that as little chicks. So funny :)

Doughie, glad that coop was not mine! My heat lamp fell down once this winter, the girls knocked it off the hook and it cinged some shavings, scared me to death, so now it is on a hook with nails and staples to hold it up in case it fails. Catastrophe averted for me that time. I am glad this person did not lose birds and no one was harmed.

I currently have 11 chickens. X3. Five are at Wheeler, gentle, friendly production quality Buff Brahmas, one cock and the rest are hens. Their names are Sahara, Kalahari, Mozart, Lilifey, and Zaphod. The other 6 are two weeks and two days old. Delaware, White Leghorn, Barred Plymouth Rock, Welsummer, Black Naked Neck, and an Easter Egger of an unknown color. :3 They don't all have names yet~

Hey, is anyone else having laying problems? My Brahmas aren't laying again yet and I was hoping to breed them this year. My ag teacher is gonna check them for eggbound today, but I was just curious. ^^

I have a Silver Laced Wyandotte and a Cuckoo Maran that have not started laying again. Everyone else is laying so not sure what their problem is. they should be laying. I expect they will eventually, but it is very strange.

Yeah Casa, they are most definitely boys. One sure does not act like a rooster but judging by the amount of red on them they have to be.

I am putting away my incubator after this hatch - assuming I get any to hatch. I think I killed all of my shipped Icelandic eggs when I had the humidity up to help the one baby hatch. And, that baby isn't doing well. Won't open its eyes and is still stumbling around, won't eat or drink yet. I'm not hatching any more eggs if all I do is kill them.

RedIII,
I'm sorry to hear about your hatching problems.
That has to be very hard.
It kind of makes me a little hesitant to try to hatch myself...

I know how you feel. the last hatch I had better luck but I have lost a lot. I have my first shipped eggs coming so I hope it works out better. It has taken me 4 months to be able to keep the incubator stable.
Don't give up.

I'm at least glad that I'm not alone in this. May be the breed... I'd say it's a calcium problem, but mine aren't laying at all. Anyways, mine aren't for egg laying purposes obviously, but I can't breed them this way, and when the time comes to sell a few of them I'm afraid no one will take them... I have too many chickens to fit in my coop when I move them to my house.

Also, took me forever to type that because my Delaware chick, Julia, kept pecking at the keyboard and pressing buttons. xD

I'll upload pictures of my Brahmas later. I have to go to Wheeler soon to check on them, so I'll take picture and stuff... Can I post videos too? XP Don't have many good pics of my babies yet.
